A special project...

Red Panda Beads is part of the Snowflake Project for the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School. The plan is that the "new" school will be decorated with snowflakes. I signed up with Red Panda and received my wire form and got to work.
This is my snowflake...What a privilege is is for me to help these children on their first day back to school. Can you imagine all the different snowflakes they will see. Other groups will be donating paper flakes and other crafted flakes. This goes in the mail tomorrow and the generosity of Red Panda Beads is making it possible. I had not used the wire forms before. They sell them in a variety of sizes and several to the package. I plan to order and make these to make for my home. I can see them hanging in  a sunny window glistening in the sunlight. Maybe a few for RAKs!
We are finally in our winter mode here in Arizona's Valley. The overnight temps have been around 40 and the day around 60's. Still, it is lovely. Flowers are still in bloom and my tomato plant has a few on the vine.  Mr H can't seem to locate the little fish in our pond, but I think because of the colder water it is hiding at the bottom or along the top under the rock edge. Since I have never seen it, I will take his word that it even exists! Getting ready to finish up my first RAK for our exchange group. I do not make New Year resolutions...but I have told myself this is the year to finish try to finish some of my WIPs. I seem to have a few!
So glad you took some time to stop by. Have a great day....

Oh My!

Just look at this beautiful exchange from Anthea .....
She was my partner in this year's SSCS exchange. and this also was in the package...

The above tote is beautiful! Big and plenty of pockets for project stuff. I love the front detail ... the embroidery and the buttons and the yo-yo flowers. The table runner is so pretty and already has a place on my mantel. Little did I know that I would have hexagons of my own! I had admired the hexagon projects on her blog.
Tomorrow I will tell you about a special project I participated in.... so for now, thank you for visiting with me and have a wonderful day.

Oh Santa baby!

It has been a few days since I had time to post. Saturday was so busy  at work and then at home with things to do and get at the grocery store. But here I am to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and look what Santa gave me...

A new Hyundai Elantra! Now when Mr H said he did not know what to put into my stocking!.... I said impossible. I am easy to please. We stated to look for another car, not necessarily a 2013, but our PT Cruiser has been asking for more $$ input. When your vehicle starts asking for money, time to send it driving elsewhere.  Mr H took me to the dealer on Sunday to see what this looked like...well the one he showed me was nice, but then he left me alone on the lot and this...this (Desert Sand is the color) drew me like a magnet. When the salesman came over without Mr H who was I do not know where, I told him I want this! Finally Mr H  came back and next thing I knew we were sitting at a desk and we were writing our names to papers. Oh no! the salesman popped out of the office and said "you know you won't be driving this"..... my license had expired and I did not know it! So Monday I was the passenger...but bright and early yesterday we were at the AZDMV to renew my ability to drive.  Notice I have not mentioned stitching... there has been none! We spend a very quiet day on the holidays, so probably today will be a good day to resume stitching. A few telephone calls to chat with family.... Mr H is roasting turkey and I am or should say will be baking Cherry pies and Chocolate Cream pies... I hope Santa was good to you, but more importantly, you are all being good to one another. Tomorrow I will show you what special project I just finished.
Merry Christmas my dear friends.

An early morning post~~~

Now you expect me to be awake early, but Mr H? No! Yet here he was at 4 AM in the living room watching a movie. Of course here it is 7 AM and off to bed he went. Me? you know I am up for the day. I am really looking forward to the new year. A new start here at the hacienda. Mr H has been doing well... oh, yes, he is having hand surgery soon, but at least it is not all the major surgery he had last year. We have hung a picture of his Baby Girl, Ms Zoe and I know he feels better about that. It is strange not to have her around.... looking for doggie treats and sharing shrimp. She is our second lost pooch in the last 7 years. We both are looking forward to a fresh year. On Wednesday (day off) as we entered the garage to start the car ( off to my doctor appt.) the car would not start. Mr Ziz to the rescue with a jump then off to Auto Zone for a battery! While there. Mr H bought the replace lifts for the trunk hatch which just stopped working the other day. I think this car is not long for my garage! It has served us well, but not interested in the next repair cost that has been quoted.
I really appreciate the nice comments for Digger the Rabbit. I will get some premium muslin today and then I can start on Grace the Angel... not sure if she will really be an angel, but she is going to be ready soon. I thought I would share one of the  other Dressmaker pincushions ....
These have been fun to make. I now have 4... maybe a gift of one to someone?  I am almost finished stitching a small project. I am thinking of tea dying it, a first for me to dye the project after it is stitched. I usually do this before stitching. This will be interesting....
Work was super busy yesterday. Lots of fleece and flannel being cut. Everyone wants to make the fleece tie blankets and the flannel seems to be going for pajama bottoms. Very last minute gifts if you ask me!
I guess I should put those last stitches of a motif on my project so I can tea dye it. Actually I best brew some tea first....
Welcome to a new friend.... and as always thank you all for the kind words and emails. Relax and have a good day.

A beautiful Wednesday

Oh the sun is back bright and warm.... the rains from last night are gone for now... just a nice day. I think the temp expected for Christmas day is 70... nice indeed.
I have been busy with needles in hand or I should say machine...

Mr Rabbit... until he has a proper name. Another pattern from the Cheswick Company. Just love it. And, yes, I did make a few changes but that is what makes him really mine. He is a he instead of a she. The pants are a great patchwork fabric I found yesterday at Jo Ann's and the top is red flannel. Mr Rabbit is sitting in my new rocking chair that Mr H bought for me. After Christmas with a bit of rearranging, it will be in our bedroom by the window. I am waiting for the cushions to arrive.... had to order them from J C Penny.          Look what is in my plant stand....

It is a sunflower pincushion made sing a 4" clay plant saucer and cotton pieces. This was shared by dear Kaaren on her blog recently. I already have another cut and ready to put together. I love  my pincushions. Her tutorial is wonderful.
So glad to be off work today... a doctor appointment this morning, but then time to stitch. Welcome to new friends and thank you all so much for your wonderful kind words. Have a great day.

Happy Birthday Mr H

Well, it rained again last night. Up and counting 3 nights of rain and 2 days. This will mean beautiful Spring flowers in our desert.  No plans for today except football. Our team, the NE Patriots play tonight. Instead of baking a cake for Mr H, I made individual Banana Cream pies for later. His birthday gift this year was having Zoe back home.... for now she sits with the Angels but will join Sherlock on a bookcase shelf. They put her in a cute print fabric and attached an angel pin to it.
I was up from 1 AM... so what to do? Well first wash and dry some wool felt. Then cut out a very large  bunny and pin the pieces together. I will probably sew it later. But I did make another pincushion...
I stumbled upon the company, The Cheswick Co. and just had to order a few patterns. This is Springtime Sewing Companions. The other one with this is on my to do list. Now I will admit that I am not big into the Primitive style, but on occasion I do fall in love with something and just have to have it. I really do like so many of her designs. Of course you know me... I must make changes that make it mine. I do not think she would mind though. I had one email exchange with her and I just know she is a sweet person. Be sure to check her site out.
Well, my friends, it is time for me to stitch on my ... oh yes, another new start. Look, I just can not help myself! Until our next cuppa and chat, do enjoy your day.

Saturday, December 15, 2012

I love this! Elisa and I did a private exchange and she sent me this lovely design. It is sitting in my Ziz Tree. All my exchanges are complete and sent and received. I will be posting more pictures in time. It is the second day of rain... now that is big news here in Arizona.... in The Valley. It actually poured last night. Haven't heard the total fall yet. It amazes me that it can rain for a few hours and not amount to anything! later. Tomorrow is Mr H's birthday. Speaking of Mr H, he is doing better about Zoe.... a little more accepting that he made the right decision at the right time. This is a short post...I am off work today and have a few errands to run. Then I think I will make him one of his favorites...scones. Hope all your Christmas shopping is complete, or at least almost there. Welcome to a new friend following me... always nice to meet someone new.  Enjoy your day...

One of three

What a nice time we had last night. As I posted, it was our Condo Christmas Open House. We first stopped at Glenda and Don's then next door to Reta's then crossed the courtyard out through the gate and over to visit with Donna. Delicious foods and beverages. I think I will plan a Spring Open House!
As I mentioned yesterday, I have been sewing....
The first one was posted here. On this one,I stained some muslin and dug out some trims and this is the first of  3 new ones. Fun to do and easy to embellish.  This may go to a friend for Christmas.  Speaking of friends, I heard from Angela... we had a private exchange for an ornament---- I heard from Heather that her son loved the Reindeer food and she the Christmas Spider--- and then from Deborah and she is pleased with the Christmas Spider that I sent for her tree. That is what Christmas is about, making someone happy! Right  now I am in the need of a cup of coffee.... then organizing myself for work today. I hope to try to remember to take a picture of our staff aprons..they look so nice hanging over the cut counter. In the meantime, do have a great day. Thank you for the kind words you send my way.....

A chilly Wednesday and Cinnamon Raisin Bread

Now what you ask has one got to do with the other? Well, it is a chilly morning and the smell of Cinnamon Raisin Bread baking is wonderful. It is one of my bread machine recipes. I hope this turns out okay.  Still a learning experience with this bread machine.  Still looking for more recipes.
No pictures today? No, although I do have one to post..just feeling lazy today.....tomorrow is another day. I am half way finished reading The House at Riverton and will say that I am enjoying it. I am doing some stitching and sewing as you will see in tomorrow's post. I just finished 3 of the Dressmaker Pincushions. Tonight is our Association Open House and I look forward to this each year. We have 3...and it is the first time participating for two of them. Simple; refreshments and conversation.
At this very moment, I need a cup of tea...nice hot tea....Welcome to my new friends..and many thanks for all the kind words ....enjoy your day.

A little bit of Christmas in the air

Every year the city of Glendale puts up 1.5 million lights on the tress in the city park...

It is a spectacular display of lights.... it is called Glendale Glitters and you can see why. We browsed a few of the antique shops and then walked through the display. The night was actually a little chilly. I had to put on a long sleeve top and wear a cotton shawl! Today is a breezy chilly morning. We have a few errands to do then I hope to bake a bread and make chicken pot pies and Mr H has everything ready for Manhattan Clam Chowder. So, it seems we will be kitchen busy today. I really need to stitch some too. I think... mind you I say think, my packages are all mailed out for the holiday. Cards were posted and cards emailed also. This year I downloaded the Advent Calender from Jackie Lawson...the British electronic card company that I have been subscribing to for years. It is the Alpine Village and everyday a surprise animation. Very nice. A warm welcome to new friends...and thank you all for such loving kind words.... you are all special! Have a wonderful day.

Thankful for your friendship

I am overwhelmed by the loving words and emails I have received for our loss of Zoe. You have made my heart full. Mr H is having a hard time right now. They were all day companions and he is lost without her underfoot.  It was strange to come home from work and not have her waiting by the cookie jar for her treat. But we will adjust as we all do when there are drastic changes in our life.
I think I have mentioned Mr H's girlfriend next door 90 something Louise? Well, once again she rewarded him with fresh baked brownies. Why you ask... what did he do... I, yes me... put lights out front on our hedges... the small plot of garden that we share between our condos. She is just too sweet! All he did was to run the extensions... it was me who had scratches and cacti stuck in my hand, me who scraped my leg... but it is he who gets the brownies.
I mentioned the mail delivery from the other day...and the Post Office. Well, I finally made it to the Post Office and here was what the postman dropped off...
Back in November when we celebrated Veteran's Day, I mentioned that I don't see the Red Poppies out here in Arizona as I did back East. Well, Jo of  Serendipitous Stitching send me this Poppy. It is handmade by disabled ex-service members. Here is their website. I shall now have a Remembrance Poppy to wear next November. Have you visited her blog to follow the Advent Calender Blog Hop.... you really should. It is such a great way to meet new friends.
Also in the mail was this adorable critter...
Another Annalee to add to my special tree. It is from my Sidekick Lu back in Rhode Island. It is a 6" Peppermint Santa Mouse! I will have to try to get a picture of all my little Annalee critters. Lu and I sat side by side for 5 years at my last job in RI. We will forever be sidekicks. She and hubby Stan are dear friends.
I am back to the Post Office this morning...really do wish they would open especially for me as I am up and ready... to mail out a couple more packages and my cards.  I know, it is not "all about me"!
I am looking forward to this weekend... some stitching is a must. I have not had a needle in hand for a few days now. And a book is ready for me to pick up at the library and one is on my e-Reader, so some reading will be nice. Maybe I will get to the Glendale Glitters also. Whatever your plans are, I do hope they are fun. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the loving words and emails.....

A very sad evening

I am posting now because I am not sure just how I will be in the morning. Today was a bad day here at the Horton house.  Our sweet Ms Zoe became very sick this morning and as I had posted, off to the Vet we rushed.  She was left as we came back home to think about what could be wrong. Well, the xrays showed liver damage and spleen as well as bladder. She was a very sick girl. We did take her home only to realize we could not let her suffer a minute more. So back we went this time coming home without her.
She was  loving pooch. Chunky Monkey is what I called her. Someone called her a Motorcycle mama, or as sis Lynowl called her a Pot bellied pig...but loved her very much and called her auntie's baby so often. My mom usually called her Zoely. But Mr H, who was her captive, called her Baby Girl. She was his baby girl from day one. She was always mindful of where he was and would look for him if he left the room. This last year when he was so sick and in and out of the hospital she was a basket case. We knew the day would eventually come. She was a bit over weight... okay a lot overweight. Shrimp, mussels, carrots and many other foods were her favorites. The house is pretty empty tonight. Mr H is very sad and lonely for his baby girl. Me? Well, who will be with me at 2 AM when I have my coffee? Who will wait by the cookie jar while my coffee is brewing? No, do not suggest we get another pooch... too difficult for us. This is our second fur baby we have lost. Rainbow Bridge now has my Sherlock and his Baby Girl... that is enough. Thank you for all the wonderful loving thoughts for us today. Good night my friends.

It has been a very long day and it's only 11 AM

I never made it to the Post Office yesterday and it does not seem as though I will today. It has been a long day. My day startd at 1 AM with Ms Zoe being sick and it continued until I had to wake Mr H and we rushed her to the Vet. Nothing harder than to see a sweet face looking at you and there is little you can do.  I signed DNR papers for her... we both agreed that would be best if it comes to that. I had plans to show you my mail from yesterday... but insteasd I will just say thank you to blogger friend Jo and my RI friends Lu & STan for now. My head is pounding and my stomach is upset. For now, I think I will try to relax as we wait for test results....

Today is another Post Office day

We have been a little busy around here. All 3 trees are up and the inside decorations are finished. All that is left to do is the outside lights and that will be today. I think my Christmas shopping is done. I have just now finished addressing my cards and sealing a couple of packages and later I will post them. Too bad the Post Office is not open this early (4:47 AM) as I am ready! Oh right, the world does not revolve around my schedule. I have not stitched one thing... not once did I cross an X... but I have enjoyed the little break. I must get back to Iris.... poor Iris has been so neglected, but so many other things have had to be taken care of. I love the exchanges that I have participated in and making Christmas Spiders and sending them and Reindeer food everywhere. Just remember.. if your little one got some of my Reindeer sure to sweep up most of it Christmas morning so they know that the deer did eat some! I positively need another cup of coffee and something to eat... the second laundry is done... peach pie makings this is a short post.... just to let you know that I welcome some new friends and visitors.... and that I do appreciate all your kind words and emails. Have a wonderful day.

I am Day 2

Yes, I am... Jo's Advent Calendar Blog Hop of 2012. Visit her here to see all of us.
I stitched this little guy in 199 and the pattern and who designed it are long lost. Sorry I can not provide any info...except to tell you I just love this little piece. Jo chose the theme; Stockings, Sack or Something else. Mr H and I still hang our stockings...

okay, the fireplace is electric... but it is pretty. Santa never fills mine. Well, that is not really true, there is a card in it--- sometimes when it is not too big to fit. Then I find it in the tree. Anything for me is usually wrapped and tucked under the tree. Mr H does get his filled. I heard something about my stocking not being regular. You see, I crazy quilted mine years ago. It was the year that I made both our boys their stockings with applique on burlap. The oldest one, Denny has his but I still have the younger one Eric's. I see that it would need a little repair.
I need to make a correction from yesterdays post. The soldier address that I post is the wrong one. After I read a couple of my comments, I looked againg at the note on my desk.. If I had looked at the correct side of the paper, I would have read this...
Holiday Mail for Heroes   P O Box 5456  Capitol Heights, MD  20791-5456
This I got from the post office. I should stop writing notes and reverse of other notes! The mail must be sent before December 7th to be delivered. The salutation can only be Dear Service Member and only cards are accepted. Well, friends, time for a cup of coffee and to finish decorating the living room tree. I put it up last night but was too tired to complete it. The room is a disaster with everything strewn about! Welcome to some new friends.... and thank you for the kind words and emails. Tomorrow I will show you what the postman brought . Have a wonderful Sunday.

The Postman delivered~~~~~

Yesterday brought 2 new packages! one from Lisa for the BBD Exchange

Just love the tiny buttons Lisa put on this. And the chenille trim just makes you want to touch it. So glad to meet a new friend. Stop by and visit her blog.
These exchanges are so great... not only do we get to share our creative talent, but we meet a new friend.
Speaking of a new friend, I also am lucky to be part of the SSCS that is hosted by Chooky. This year my package is from Anthea who is from Western Australia. I must tell you, that I have been visiting all the SSCS girls and admiring their work. When I stopped by Anthea's blog, I loved her embroidery and thought, Iwould love one of those for my gift! Little did I know she was my Secret Santa and I did get one! It is already on the Ziz Tree!
About the Ziz Tree.... I suppose you want to know, "What is a Ziz Tree". It is the lovely woodland style tree that Dear Ziz gave me! Always wanted on now I have one and it is called The Ziz Tree. Today being the 1st of December, a time that I usually get my cards ready for the mailing, I want to share an address that I send to each year.
A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Hospital
6900 N W Georgia Avenue
NW Washington D.C. 20307-5001....... maybe you would like to send a card to cheer someone away from home this holiday. I hope you will be able to stop back to see me tomorrow. I am Day 2 of Jo's Advent Calendar Blog Hop.
So nice to see you today....enjoy your Saturday and see you tomorrow.

Lovely gifts and a bit of Christmas

This is the earliest I have ever put up decorations! Mr H helped me take down from storage all the Christmas stuff yesterday and by 4 AM today, the snowman are sitting in their places, the Autumn centerpiece is now Christmas, the Angels are on the shelves and the Kitchen tree is up with it's own gold spider.  Our small village is displayed on the mantle this year. Oh and the postman this week has brought some lovely xchanges....
I had a private exchange with Angela  from Hooked on Stitches and Elsia from Old Ragged Threads, and  June  from Butterfly Wings chose me to receive one of her creations. My Ziz Tree is up in the kitchen and of course it has a spider. I did mail out several spiders and hope they make it to their own trees too. Just look how lovely my gifts are! Thank you ladies for you creations. They will hang on my Ziz Tree this year.
Remember the Sun Dried Bread...don't know what went wrong, but I had to trash it... I will try it again, just not yet. I had planned to make bread this morning but I just got too busy with other things! Work today, so the decorations will have to wait until this weekend..... unless I have nothing better to do tomorrow morning at 3 or 4 AM! My BBD exchange has been received by Linda and I have sent my SSCS and Reindeer food to some sweet children. Moms...please remember to sweep up most of the food before the kids wake on Christmas morning. That's about it today my friends....thanks for sharing some time with me. Thank you for the kind words and emails.... have a wonderful day.

What is going on?!

Another day of busy activity! Before daylight, I had 2 laundries done,  Sun-Dried Tomato Bread baking, Tapioca Pudding cooking and my Christmas packages ready to go to the Post Office! Geez... I need slow down pills. I finished the sweet biscornu...
I think the translucent yellow beads add sparkle and I used a larger bead for the 8 corners.Glad I decided to have the backside with less stitching. I found a square bead for the front center that fit perfectly and happened to have the right color button in my button jar for the back. These biscornus are addictive to make. I love them and the humbugs.... now which one to do next?
Have you noticed my music is gone? It seems that the company also decide that after you download it to your blog, they decide to cancel blog use. I guess you will have to hum when you visit!
I joined Jo's Advent Calendar Blog special door number is Sunday December 2nd. I hope you will stop by then and check with her for the other participants. Alwasy nice to visit with you. Thank you for the kind words and I do hope your day is for coffee and the newspaper.

Too organized....too early

I have been busy this morning. Just finished typing and printing our Christmas Open House notices. I have been organizing this event since I moved here. It is a way for all of us to catch up one what is going on in our small community. I will deliver these tomorrow morning when I will be home. Today is Tuesday, and it means a work day.
Remember I told you about my individual pies?

This was Thanksgiving Banana Cream. They measure just about 5 inches across so they are perfect for one. It is Libbey's Just Baking series. This week I will try their  Pot Pie recipe with a bit of left over turkey. I bought Comstock Peaches to make pies tomorrow and I plan to try a Sun-dried Tomato bread recipe  also. I was too lazy to do any of this last night. Wednesday is a good day as I will be home. Yesterday was our monthly Sun Stitchers Meeting. I worked on my biscornu, but did not get much accomplished. I am stitching it together and then it will just need buttons and stuffing. Do any of you belong to ANG? I thought about going as a visitor to a local January meeting. Well, that is about it for today. I need to let Ms Zoe outside..... not that she is asking, but with her memory of late, it is best that I think for her at times! Thanks for the kind words with my last post.
Before I forget.... I just received a nice note from a Arizona stitcher who reads my blog (not blog of her own... yet) and we are thinking about trying for a meet after the holidays. It will be  a Sunday afternoon/late morning as some of us work. We will pick a central place... anyone else here in Arizona wanting to join us? Let me know and it will help in choosing a central location for all of us. You do not need to have  a blog to join us.... would be nice to meet face to face.  Something to think about. Have a wonderful day my friends.

So glad last week has ended!

It is finally over-- the Black Friday weekend. Most of the customers were friendly and pleasant, but it only takes the one who complains they have to wait, the one who questions why when we are busy we are taking breaks, the one who keeps calling on her cell phone to her husband in the car that she is still waiting. Just glad that it is over. My apron has been a big hit with the customers as has all the other girl's aprons. One of the managers plans to keep them on display during the week until we wear them for the weekends. Hopes are that customers will want the patterns and fabrics.
Recently I found a cute pincushion idea and we know how I like my pincushions... this was from Get Creative Conference Center... design by Marie Browning Creates.

It was a fun piece to work on. I have 3 other fabric designs I would like to finish.
I mailed out a few exchanges this past week and have several more to go on Monday. My BBD was received by Linda Nelson... you can see it here.    Don't you just love black Bird Designs!
Well, I am almost to the stitch together my latest Biscornu so I think I will wish you a fine day and have a cup of tea while I work on it. It is always a pleasure to have you stop by and thank you for the kind words.
Can you believe that Christmas is one month away!?

Long day ahead~~~

Black Friday----- for me it means an 8 hour work day.  Now wait, remember that I am semi-retired and work a couple of days a week for 4 to 5 hours.  Instead of shopping I will be measuring and cutting fabric for the next 2 days.  This year Jo Ann headquarters decided that we could wear a holiday apron on the weekends.  It has to be from a pattern that we sell, and fabric from the department.  Many of us have decided to do that...  here is my version...
Nothing like the original pattern.  I love the old fashion print.  The pattern is a Butterick... I do not particularly like their patterns, but it was on sale for $1.99 instead of $11.99 so that was incentive.  The fabric line was also on sale which brought the apron down to around $12.00 to make.  One of our managers plans to hang them during the week above the cut counter for a display through the holiday.
Mr H and I had a nice quiet relaxing Thanksgiving.  The turkey was moist and the stuffing/dressing was delicious.  I did make the mini pies and we enjoyed the apple last night for dessert.  I bought the set of  10 Pyrex pie dishes... they are 6 inches... and the recipe book on sale at work.  We usually waste a regular whole pie as it is just the 2 of us.  This has been a nice way to enjoy dessert.  This weekend I will make turkey pot pies.   I also bought the 4 piece casserole set.  Yes, sometimes I do cook but it is very limited! and I love to bake.  One of these days I will have to tell you about when Mr H and I first married. I was very challenged in the household duties!
I am so happy you stopped by on this busy day.  I hope your yesterday was wonderful and your weekend will be relaxing... or if you are planning tho shop, hope you get all the bargains you are looking for.

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

A late day post

Would like to wish all a very pleasant day tomorrow. Mr H is cooking the turkey and I will bake a few pies and "assist" him with the cooking. Ms Zoe will be under foot the entire time. I plan on making 2 Banana Cream pies and 2 Apple.... now before you think oh my! these are mini pies.... I will tell you more about them later.... and I have been stitching today... more later.
I am Thankful for each and everyone of you. You enrich my life.
Happy Thanksgiving my dear friends.

Friday, November 16, 2012

oh wait... I still have one more work day before my weekend starts. Here is one of the projects I have been working on
A free pattern for a Biscornu from Stickerin M B. It is a German blog and lovely designs.  I made a few changes... of course to personalize it. I added yellow beads instead of French knots.  I have just started the back side and hope to finish it by the weekend. I do not think I will stitch completely as the front. I like the sides to be different. We will see....
Mr H picked up the turkey for thanksgiving... well actually since it is just the 2 of us, it is a large breast. We do not make a big to do for the meal but I do like to have turkey on the special day. Thanksgiving is our favorite holiday. He will cook all the fixings and I will make the dessert. We were invited to join friends out to eat, but as they prefer to go out early  and Mr H is not an early eater... we plan to cook home. Oops, I mean he will do the cooking... no not me. I will bake bread also... still enjoying my bread machine and still looking for a nice light zucchini bread recipe.
I am still trying to catch up on my blog visits... it it not easy once you get behind! Speaking of behind, I best get mine moving... off to work today. Thank you for your kind words and for spending some time with me today. I do hope you have a great day.

It seems as if I missed this week--- too!

I have not blogged in almost a week and not visited blogs.... but I did stitch and I will show pictures tomorrow. I did work on my exchanges and get them ready to travel as well as the spiders and reindeer food..... so I did keep busy aside from work. Speaking of that, here goes another week before the big sale. Jo Ann's is starting this week with door busters and then of course we get Black Friday. I am off to fix my  breakfast... so do have a great day and I we will chat tomorrow.

Need a quiet relaxing day~~~~

What a week!  We were so busy at Jo Ann's these past 2 weeks.  I am glad it is Sunday and I have today and tomorrow off before beginning the next big sale. I have a Potato and Rosemary bread in the  machine... one laundry in the dryer and one in the wash.... and I plan to stitch real soon.  Reindeer food and Christmas spiders are getting ready to travel near and far..... my exchanges are ready to post except for the one I am finishing this weekend. I am humming along.  Have you seen the Gingerbread Mouse pattern by Just Nan.... one of my fav designers... I must get it! I am not in the mind to drive to Mesa to The Needlework shop,  so I may have it sent to me. It is got to hang on my tree this year.  The temps have certainly dropped here in Arizona and it is about time.  We moved here for the wonderful climate, but enough of the hot days. I need cool weather to think about Thanksgiving and Christmas.
'I would be remiss if I did not say thank you to all who gave/give me freedom.  Until my dad died in 1985, he always bought sis Lynowl and me a red poppy to wear.  I do not see them of late but I still remember.

It was so nice to chat with you today.... enjoy the day.

Mid-week and some reading

For some reason I really like my Wednesdays... maybe because it is the middle of the week and a day off from work, maybe it is just because. Today is starting off very cool but the expected temp is back to 90. One of these days we will begin our Fall/Winter season. The weather is predicting another East Coast storm... and I will keep good thoughts for my family and friends in the path.
Yesterday was a good mail day. I received a package from June of Butterfly Wings. She had chosen me to be one of her recipients of a Christmas ornament  So, you will have to wait until Christmas for a picture. Well, it isn't Christmas yet even if the stores are already past Autumn and into the Christmas decorations! I have been stitching a biscornu that I just had to add to my basket. I am getting the Christmas Spiders ready and the Reindeer food too. You can check out my last post for info on these. I am in a reading mood and half way through The Forgotten Garden. I may finish it today. There just might not be stitching in my hours today....
So glad you found some time to visit. Thank you for the emails and kind comments my friends. Have a wonderful day.

Sewing and finished!

I really set myself to finish a few things. First from last year...
This embroidery was from the 2011 Challenge. I put it away and remembered that it needed to be finally finished. I love pillows. I know, I say that I love this and that, well I do. She will sit on the daybed. Then I figured while the sewing machine was ready I should also make this pillow...
It is Patty C's Design, her first one! and I fell in love when I saw the pattern. I could not get the back fabric true to color, but if you look at the bottom of the pillow front picture, that is the lovely shade of brown and the highlighted wings are gold thread. I thought, why not use this birds fabric... Birds of a feather flock together. I added a few copper colored beads to the umbrella and the kitty collar. The colors are so nice that Patty chose that I did not change them at all. This is also on the daybed.
The other finishing was for my BBD exchange and one for a Christmas ornament exchange so they can not be seen yet. Last week was so very busy at Jo Ann's. Great sales... broke all my finger nails on the fabric bolts! Yesterday as well as today is just gorgeous outside. Mr H and I sat out on the lanai playing Farkle  and Ms Zoe slept under  the chaise. The Travelling Bunny arrived at Annette's ( from Maryland), but I have not email for her or blog info... I am sure she will let us know when it is ready to move on.  I also began reading another book ...  The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. I have only read a few  of the 548 pages! so I can not judge it yet.
A few Christmas Spiders already crawled to a few co-workers.... I would like to share some with you. So... if you would like a Christmas spider, please send me an email with your mailing address and then I will surprise a few of you! Let me know if you would like a particular color...I will also include the Legend with it. Do any of you have little ones who still believe in Santa? I would like to send some children my Reindeer food for Christmas Eve...let me know and I will also be surprising some of the children.  Email me with their names, ages and address and I will choose some of them ... all of this will be mailed out by December 1st. So, do not delay. I want to keep it all as surprises as to who gets selected. If there are any questions about any of this... I know I am beginning to question myself! just send an email to me. I am tired now, so I will have a cup of tea and sit outside and read for a while. Thank you for sitting with me this long... have a wonderful day.

Sending a message~~~

To all my USA sure to remember to turn back your clocks 1 hour this Sunday ... Arizona does not follow Daylight Savings.
A partly cloudy morning and beautiful cool temps... I am off to work today and if it is anything like yesterday... I will need a foot soak and early night again! You know I must have been exhausted... I slept until 5 AM! Now really, that is 2 hours later than normal.  Of course with the 25% off total purchase coupon this weekend, everyone is taking advantage.  I am relaxing and stitching a little this morning. My plans for the weekend are to set up the sewing machine and do some finish work. A short post today..
Thank you for visiting with me.  Have a great day.

Is it already Wednesday?

Another week of lost days. I did get some stitching done and new one started. I know~~ I can't help myself. It started with my downloading a freebie from The Little Stitcher....

I just had to make this and I did have that fabric I bought a week or so back. I love the small print. The linen is tea dyed. I have had the old key which I attached since 1973. Actually I have 2 that I found and so I would not loose them, I attached the tassels. Now this one has a permanent place. Since I was visiting Laura's blog I also bought The Wise Old Witch and even though today is Halloween, I am stitching it. It will be a pillow that will remain on the guess room daybed. This room is where I hibernate to and stitch. Of course when someone is in town~~~ sis Lynowl or brother Alan, I relocate. It is a pleasant room... one day I will share pictures. In the meantime, if you have not visited The Little Stitcher you really should. I am not very into primitive stitching, but I do love many of her designs.
Our Ms Zoe did not have a good night...she was very restless and just not her usual self. Of course she had first Mr H up for sometime then me and now she is fast asleep and snoring. Yesterday as I opened the blind in the guest room 4 of the 5 cords snapped! It is a 72 inch blind. Glad it did not fall off the widow and come crashing down.
I am off to stitch for a while then out to replace the blind. The sliders are open and the air is comfortable.... I hope you are all safe from the aftermath of Sandy. Thank you for sharing some time with me.

A busy Sunday

Football is on the TV.... laundry all away.... bread in the machine... oh that's right. I haven't told you about my new bread machine. Years ago I had a nice bread machine and used it all the time. When we sold everything and moved out West, it was one of many items that did not come with us. Last week while watching America's Test Kitchen, Mr H and I talked about making bread and about the machine we had. So we  went on line and found the one we wanted and voila! it is now in my kitchen.
It is a Breadman and the French loaf we made at the start of the week was good. Today I am making Herb Italian loaf.  There are quite a few tastey sounding recipes in the book but one that I loved and used to make was Zucchini bread and I do not have that recipe. I will have to go on line to find one. I love fresh made bread. The French loaf  was delicious with olive oil and cracked pepper dip. Yum! Well, enough about the bread... I am making myself hungry.
The Travelling Bunny will be out tomorrow to Anne and since my last post, Cucki and Kaye also want to stitch it. So after Anne it goes off to Leila then to Cucki and then to Kaye. They say bunnies are very busy creatures and I guess this one is no exception! Talked with my brother this morning and all was still quiet on the East Coast. Today is another gorgeous day... although I think I will soon need to close the sliders and put on the ceiling fans. I stitched on an exchange piece earlier and will get back to it.  I am a huge PBR fan and will get to watch the finals this afternoon.   I do appreciate the kind words and emails. I do hope you have a great day.

The Bunny is ready to travel!

I could not wait to stitch and send on the Travelling Bunny, Here is my version
I did  a little different. I chose not to stitch the background and I added black Delica beads for eyes and more beads to the flower center. I stitched it on 32 ct Belfast linen that I tea dyed. My plan is to finish it as a needle-book. Not to look through my stash for the fabric... and I think I have just what I want there. The pattern will now be off to Annie Bernstein then on to Liela. I have added to the enveope: Delica beads and 2 Simply Shaker threads as well as a DMC thread and a package of needles.
I am off to work today so my weekend will start Sunday. The days here in Arizona are getting so perfect. I enjoy sitting outside to stitch and read and it is finally comfortable enough to do so. Did I mention I bought a bread machine? No? well that will have to be next time... speaking of time, I must move along and get organized to go to work. Thank you for visiting and leaving kind words and emails. Enjoy you day.

EDIT: Just got the call to stay home! Love it. It is just too nice a day to go to work! So i will get to sit outside and stitch....

So busy~~~~

Doing this and that can really keep me busy. First this.... yesterday's mail brought me a Travelling Pattern--- Bent Creek, The Littles, Bunny
The pattern is Bunny and it came from Lee along with a few gifts for me! I loved the ruler and fob she had posted on her blog... now I have one! She also sent two beautiful YLI Silk floss packets. This sweet pattern next will go to Annie Bernstein...that is as soon as I stitch it. I will do that this weekend!  Lee is so sweet... she has all the info tagging along with the pattern to make it easy for all of us. She is so talented  Have you seen her latest creation... Wonton Pincushion? I love pincushions and this one is nice.
Then I answered Angela's post for an exchange, so I am working on that now so of course no pictures. I hope to spend some of the weekend doing final finishes on a few projects then they will be ready for their mail dates.  I really enjoy your kind words and emails. I feel lucky to count you all as my friends....  no matter how near or far. I leave you with a picture I took the other evening....
The sky was ablaze with orange and gold. The sun sets over the White Tank Mountain range.... such beauty. Sometimes I just watch until the sun disappears...
I do hope you all have a wonderful day!

Unexpected day...

Most of the time Mr H and I set out for one thing and then we do another and another. Yesterday was that sort of day. I can not even remember what we did at first, but he decided to ride North of Cave Creek to check out the Sears-Kay Ruin. The area is in this area.
We did begin to hike in but as this was not our original destination and I had sandals on and only one bottle of water, we stopped half way there. It also was quite warm; neither of us had hiked in a year since Mr H's surgeries so we thought better of continuing. Plans are to return better prepared. But as we left the area...

My morning seems stuck...

Going to be one of those days. You know the kind. It will be forever stuck in a time warp. It is what happens when you have on/off sleep. When you just can not seem to get going. Thankfully, I do not have to be anywhere until work at noon.
The stitching for Stitching Buddies is complete and I will be looking for fabric today to finish it. Loved working with Patty's design. Look what was crawling around my tea cups this morning....
When you can't sleep you create. They will be going to sit in someone's Christmas tree this December. I guess there are many combinations I can make depending on color schemes....any ideas?
Well, time to continue to wake up...maybe another cup of coffee and the morning paper will help. Welcome to new friends. I really appreciate that you take the time to visit and leave me kind words. I see Ms Zoe is back from her two minute walk around the yard. She is staring through the screen let her in before she panics and gets lost out there. Have a wonderful day my friends.

Early morning quiet

I love the quiet of the early morning  Before the sun is bright and only the sounds of the hummingbird visiting the feeder. We finally have early cool temps so the slider is open and as I sit here I can listen to the gurgle of the pond water. If I approach the  pond slowly, the fish can be seen floating lazily close to the  surface. It is a small pond, but very nice to have. Lizards scurry around as they see or hear me outside. Just me...Mr H is still asleep and Ms Zoe is too.
I have been stitching and getting ready to do the final finishing on  a few projects. Then they will be ready to mail off for my exchanges. I will be making some of those Christmas spiders this weekend and then they too will be ready to scatter around to new homes for the  holiday. I am almost ready with my SSCS package.... This is my second year that I am participating. You can click on the picture right side bar to read all about it.
Look what I found in my garden this morning...
Mr H said as long as I was making spiders, how about a black and red one for him....Be ready to let me know what color you would want for your Christmas tree....soon I will be  posting and then selecting.... so watch for the post soon.
Speaking of Christmas trees.... I found this to add to my tree this year... well one of my trees...
She is simply labeled Russian Doll... I do love these Matryoshka dolls and over the weekend found a few cross stitch patterns. I see a few free standing dolls in my future. But for now, I think a cup of coffee and toast with Prickly Pear Jelly is the only thing in my immediate future. So happy to have you visit with me today. Thank you for the kind words. I love hearing form you. Welcome to a few new friends..... have a great day.

Lost in time

Where did this week go? It seems that I am getting lost and not in space! Where is just a blur. I did hurt my hands. Well, I should clarify that statement. I did a bit of raking in the garden on Monday. I have a blister on my left hand and index and middle finger of the right hand minor abrasions. It really is not easy to stitch with band-aids on. I finally was able to stitch on PattyC's first design again... no pictures yet. It is adorable. If you have not discovered her etsy click here to see it. I did find some nice fabric yesterday before leaving work...
Why and what for...does the word sale tell you why and the what for...because. I think the medallion print will make a nice pincushion and the butterfly print just smiles to me. I am very fond of quiet prints and I think the green one will make a nice backing. I may have to pick up a few more before the weekend and the sale ends. 50% off...can't beat it.
Met a cute little boy yesterday who told me that he loves Halloween ... not because his mommy is making him wear some costume, but he is thinking about all the candy he will get. Meantime his mom is behind him nodding no no! Some of the costumes these people are making! /what happened to the days... never mind, I know; it was so long ago.
I will leave you with this picture....
Since they stopped by for breakfast, I think I will feed myself.
Thank you the kind words and the emails. So you see, I did not disappear, but thanks for checking.
I will be at work today and tomorrow, but then I will be stitching for the weekend. Our weather seems to finally be cooling down some. At least we are out of the triple digits! I am just about finished with my current book.... so a trip to the library is on the agenda. Enjoy your day.

Let me introduce you ... again... but for the first time as Lady Clara. Yesterday, Dear Ziz and I pondered over the names sent to me. Thank you all for the suggestions. We changed our minds a few times, but in the end, we liked Clara. The suggestion came from SoCal Debbie. I will be emailing you soon.
I spent early this morning out in the back yard... cleaning. Racking up some of the fallen blossoms, the hulls from the birdseed and general stuff that seems to find it's way into the yard. Then the yard got a good hose down and then I came in to hose me down! A nice warm shower and now I am ready for---- what? Well, the newspaper is here, but I do not feel like reading it now. I have my book to read and stitching to do. Have you all visited PattyC's Etsy Shop yet? I am loving her first design. I met Patty when I first began to blog. She was looking for a pattern for her new eyeglasses and I had one. Imagine, an eyeglass case pattern and poof, we are friends. You just never know! What I do know,is, that she is a sweet person. Well, I am ready for my cup of coffee and reading and stitching...not at the same time of course, but somewhere with each other. Think I will sit on the glider and enjoy the cooler temps this morning. It is only 71 right now! Can it be we are into Fall? Probably not, so I better take advantage while I can. Thanks for stopping by and do have  a wonderful day.

A package from Italy and an old book

It is always wonderful when the postman brings something just for me.....

This was from Chiara of the grey tail . She helped co-ordinate the sale of cross stitch patterns by various designer that would benefit the people of the Emilia Romano earthquake area. There are 38 designs and they are lovely. A worthwhile cause to support. Thank you Chiara for your efforts in spreading the word and taking on the task of mailing to all of us. I keep flipping through the pages trying to put them in a stitch order!
I every so often come across a book in my collection. Now we all have these book collections. We may not remember where they came from or why we even have them, but we do. Here is one that I can not remember where, where or how I came by this one. I can tell you that I have had it for at least 30 years!

The illustrations are wonderful. The wording is just ...well let me share this....
"Implements have much to so with success in working, and to keep one's scissors sharp and one's temper vice versa, one's needles pointed and one's tongue still, one's silk out of tangle and one's mind to match, will aid in reaching that which is hoped for." Just to read is wonderful never mind try the designs! Did you notice the publication date? 1889! I guess I will be turning these pages this weekend.
This is of course is the Columbus Day weekend celebration at Jo Ann's .. so yes, we will be busy. Yesterday I stood for 2 hours at the registers and when I finally got home, proceeded to soak my poor toes in a Eucalyptus foot bath. Very relaxing. Have you seen the new designer in blog world.... it is none other than PattyC from Hanging on by a Thread. I just received my copy and dyed some fabric and am ready stitch. Wonderful to be able to support our friends in their new adventures.
Well my friends, time for me to get to my stitching you have a favorite place to sit and stitch? Glad you took some time to share with me...have a great day.

One for, one for~~~~

I just can't believe this week is almost gone. Yesterday Mr H and I ran errands for 4 hours! I can tell you that we accomplished a lot, and enjoyed lunch at Paradise Bakery Cafe but were so tired when we finally got home. I did buy 2 Christmas gifts that will be soon wrapped and ready for shipping for December. I also finished another beaded project....

The "tennis" style bracelet is a gift and will be mailed in a week, but the green Deborah Roberti , Tila Squared bracelet is for me. I saw the pattern on her blog and ordered it and it was not too complicated to make. It took longer to decide on color combinations than to really make it. I would like to make another--- I better start deciding on colors now!
The morning started out to be quite comfortable, but the warmth is slowly making the air conditioner  necessary.Just when is Fall going to happen around here? Don't forget, My Lady is still looking for a name so be sure to leave me a comment or send an email with your idea. I will be deciding on Sunday and then getting a gift ready for the person who names her. I have received great suggestions...
Tomorrow I will tell you about a package the post left for me. Until then, have a wonderful day.

Crawly but not creepy

I love trying and learning new things. Yesterday I created some crawly but never creepy...
Yes, spiders. These however are sparkling with beads.
Many years ago... I do mean many, I heard the legend of the Christmas Spider. The original tale that I was told is a little different than the one I have now, but no matter. It is a sweet story.
I had a web and spider and for over 30 years and it rested on a branch of my tree every year. Then poof, one year the spider was missing.  This year I decided to add it back to my tree. Then I figured, well, if you make one then why not make several and send them off to friends for their tree along with the story. So--- if you think you may want one for your Christmas tree, keep a watch for the post that invites you to enter my web.
Last night I had a chat via telephone with my mom. We started to reminiscence about "the days".  Now mom is 85 and sometimes she , well, let's say--- on third thought let's not. Anyway, Mr H brought up something I always tell him is a fond memory. Angel food cakes. Mom made the best angel food cake. So I told her how I think of it often. The reply... are you sitting? " I am going to bake one this week and then freeze it and then I will mail it off to you". I know the post is good, but mailing across country and how it will end up here? I will keep you informed if this happens. She means well. Did I mention that she is still waiting for me to return to RI? We packed up, sold everything and drove across country 8, yes eight years ago and she is still waiting. Enough of this....
It has been a great few days off from work which has been very busy. Everyone is sewing this or that and getting Christmas gifts ready. I have to get through Fall first! Are you making many of your gifts? Today is a plan to make a gift that will be for Halloween. It involves beads.  And a little relaxing with a book.
REMEMBER... still looking for a name for My Lady.... so leave a suggestion either here or there.... and emails... I hope your day is terrific!

The debut of..... My Lady

What a good feeling when something finishes just the way you thought and planned. And here she is
Little House Needleworks "My Lady" stitched on Cream Belfast 28 Ct linen using DMC threads as recommended. My thought was to hang a needlework charm from her hands, but I have not found one that I like--- yet. So, that may be an addition at some time. I have stitched in here and there some filament thread to add a little glow. Unfortunately, it does not show in the pictures but does in person. I am so glad that I found the paisley silky print for her backing and the gold braid to trim. Her bustle is a small pincushion. Now, what I would like is for all of you to help give her a proper name. So, post here or email me your choice of a fitting name for her. I will choice a name next Sunday, October 7th. I am sure there will be something special for one of you.
Mr H is being cautious now that we have the coyotes roaming at all times again. Personally, I doubt they could pick up our 27 pound chunky monkey! They last time she came face to face with a coyote, she stared and I believe would have invited him in! She is such a gentle soul.
Today is of course football Sunday at the H house. While Mr H cheers, complains and yells at the TV, I will be going to the bead shop to make a new trinket. Welcome to a new friend who joined my blog... and thank all of  you for taking the time to visit. Enjoy your day....
