Mischief around the abode

Goodness... where have I been? I am doing okay... thank you for the emails checking on me. It is a great feeling to know that you care. Me, myself and I are getting back to normal... or close to it anyway.  Still no creative hands but I have been planning a few projects. Christmas is catching up to me as I am not ready. Still need to get a few gifts organized and my mailing has not been done yet. The decorations are all up around the place and the front porch has it's tree. This is the first year in awhile that I did not put up the tree in my bedroom.... might get to it this weekend. I am missing it and all my Ana Lee decorations from Lu (back in Rhode Island).
I want to introduce you to someone new in my life.... Murphy!

He is a 4 month old mini Schnauzer. All his fluffy puppy fur at the moment is black with a brindle patch on the back of his neck. He could have been named "piccolo diavolo" which is Italian for little devil... he can find more things to get into! Murphy loves to play in the garden. Specifically he enjoys playing in the fountain garden.... collecting rocks. Sometimes they have made it into the house...

Most of the time they are small rocks from the area but he thought he could save this large one. Sticks are great to chew on and bring into the living room too. If something seems missing it is a sure thing it is on his blanket. I have missed my dear Sherlock so very much. On Tuesday, Alan's day off, I asked if we could go to rescue a pooch. There were none at the shelter that were quit right. Off to a breeder supplied pet shop we went. There were a couple there that were a possibility...then this guy caught my eye. He had to come home with me.

A face to love! Yes, that is a leaf stuck to his nose and yes he is resting in the fountain garden on the crushed stone. Good thing the pond is gone! My heart is full when I look at this boy. House training is coming along. As usual, schnauzers have a mind of their own. So expect frequent updates on Murphy and maybe he will get my creative hands to work!

Pink for Spring....

March has arrived and for us here in The Valley of the Sun the temps are wonderful...in the low 70s. It has been wonderful sitting outside with my coffee and a book. I have attempted to get back to doing something crafty.... but I see now that I will have to take it easy still.

It felt wonderful lathering up my hand with my Dragonfly soap. I love pretty soaps. Finally my hand feels clean again….It is looking good, still swollen and a little stiff, but I am massaging the fingers as well as stretching them. I am also applying the Mederma oil on the scar and soon my hand will feel soft.

Just the day before surgery I made this Spring wreath to hang at the front door. So far a few birds have checked it out and if they know what is good for them they will leave it alone. I also have taken my cotton thread and Hairpin Lace tool

and added an embroidery pattern that I found on Jacquelynne Steve's blog and voilà...I have a couple of projects. I thought I would start with the tatting project... or at least get part of a few ready but my hand began to really ache. Holding the crochet hook (size 2) caused my fingers to cramp up. So, only 2 are made. Do you know what they are for??? The embroidery pattern is adorable. When you print it, it has 2 sides...each gal is facing opposite/reverse.

She will be stitched on this towel for my kitchen. Originally the pattern is for St. Patrick's Day, but as Jaqueline suggested, you can simply make the clovers into flowers ad that is what I plan to do. I will grab my DMC color chart and decide on which colors to use. Usually when I make one of these towels I cut it in half as this is only for display ad I need only one side to show. I just may make one at one end facing one way and the other end facing opposite. I am having second thoughts about the fabric I chose for my March Origami Star so it is on hold just now. I am not a big fan of St. Pat's designs.... but still it is March. For me it is all about March 19th, Fiesta San Giuseppe, the feast of Saint Joseph.  In my Italian family it was to celebrate my dad's saint day...he was baptized Giuseppe but everyone knew him as Joe. We always had Zeppolas... a delicious pastry filled with cooked cream.
An update on the Doves.... there is now a pair but they are not nesting. They appear every morning in the garden and chat then disappear. I am asking for special thoughts for my friend LuLu back in Rhode Island. Her niece is under going a double mastectomy.... please keep her and the family in your thoughts. Glad you stopped by today. Seven blooms!

Did you see the bright full moon last night? As I walked into the kitchen at 12:30 am it looked like the back light was on! Then I saw the bunny running for cover as I stood in the window.

Then this morning the sun rise out the same window with no bunny in sight. Chilly start again to the day with temps reaching maybe 72 later...no complaints from me. I baked almond biscotti and almond shortbread cookies yesterday afternoon. How I got so ambitious is beyond me. I may make Pizzelles later...not sure what is going on today. Maybe another Snow Globe Snowman. Need to take it easy today...a slight fall yesterday has my back sore. Not to worry, I did not get hurt just missed the desk chair which began to roll away without me.

Surprise! The Amaryllis will give me 7...seven blooms! I have never had such a fantastic Amaryllis. My RI sidekick LuLu sent me an email telling how to store this plant and hopefully in October it will be back to bloom again. I definitely will try it.
I have a new project/experiment in the kitchen …

My green onions are growing....the one with the bright green sprout is several days old and the others are only a few days... soon they will be potted.  My herb seeds are waiting to be planted also.
The Housekeeping Fairy has not arrived so I guess I will need to do a few chores.  I enjoyed chatting with you today. Thank you for the kind words and most of all your friendship.  🎄🎅

A Reindeer and a truck....

I thought I would never sleep last night...it was midnight and I was so awake! But, all of a sudden I guess I did and the next thing I knew it was 7 AM. A chilly start to the day but if it just may turn out to be like yesterday in the low 70s and sitting outside on the lanai may be in the plans.
Oh my friend LuLu in Rhode Island sent me an Ana Lee ornament...

Isn't he handsome.....standing about 10 inches to his antlers and nose to tail almost 7.  Lu and I worked together for a few years before I moved out here...sidekicks were and still are. I needed a bit of joy yesterday so this was delightful to open. The doorbell rang later and Robyn and Dave from "Across the courtyard" appeared

and this truck is now on the tree... and a box of chocolates! How did they know I was down to the last few pieces of my chocolates? I love this lovely ornament. First Denny liked pickup trucks. When I met him 49 years ago that was what he was driving...a rather old beat up truck. It was parked more than on the road. I was driving a new car and told him that is why we got married, so he could have my car! This simple wooden truck brightened my day.
The last of my mailed packages will arrive at their destination today so I guess that means I made it for the Christmas preparations. Hard to think it is just about a week away.
Well, coffee is finished and the day waits..... actually there are no plans for today. It was so nice to chat with you and I thank you for the kind words and for your friendship. 

Can I forget last evening?

The sun is shining and there is a nip to the air. Finally there we have winter temps and it is almost Spring! The garden will not know what is going on!
I lost a key...now you may be thinking... The Brother Alan and I found so many keys and no clue about them some months ago.

In the picture: the round key fob are my house keys, then there is a garage door key then there are 3 front door keys! then a bunch of "those secret keys" and then the lone kitchen door key.
The lost key is to the kitchen door to/from the garage. I almost looked myself in the garage last evening! I had a moment of panic but stopped the door from closing then thought no big deal there is a key here. It was then that I looked for the key and it was not there. I did feel panic. What if...I had not caught the door...how would I get into the house....I could call...no, I had no phone with me...I could leave by the garage door and go to Glenda and Don's. they have a key...no, they have a key to open the garage door only. I spent one hour in the garage looking for where the key had disappeared to. Finally I gave up but it weighed on my mind throughout the rest of the evening and into this morning. First thing this morning I began to look again...but along the way I began to do at least 10 things. I actually overwhelmed myself and all before a cup of coffee. So I had my coffee and gave up on all the little projects and went into the garage and found the key! In the process I found 2 more keys. Why I did not put it back where I usually did is a mystery. You do know that Glenda and Don will be getting a copy of this key ASAP. I think I will pretend that last evening never happened.
I had a lot of aches and discomfort with my right leg yesterday and all this playing in the garage will not help me today so it is a day of rest for me now. My tatted motif is almost finished and the doll is still headless! That will be my goal today. Glad you visited and listened to my tale of woe. Thank you for the kind words and for your friendship.
LuLu if you are reading this....I got your lovely card and I miss you too. Thank you. Glenda, well what can I say...she and I have been sharing a cup of tea here and there and I would be lost without her. (these gals do not blog). Friends, I treasure you more than I can say.

More mail deliveries

Quiet day yesterday...chilly but nice once the day moved on. Spoke with the local post office supervisor about slap shot deliveries. He agreed the "fragile" marked boxes should not be tossed over a 6 foot gate!...really?!?
I though I should organize my Denny's Angel basket. Found a couple left so I guess they will need to find a home. I have received such kind words from those who did receive one. It is my pleasure to share them.

This beautiful bracelet arrived from my RI friend Joan...very New England with the sunset, shell and star fish with a piece of beach glass in a pretty gold sheer bag. I love my bracelets.

The other box was from Lu and Stan, also in RI, and of course it was Annalee...not one but 2!

Look at this little baker.....I have a special tree for all the Lu/Stan ornaments. This little baker will help today with the  Pizzelles. I did finish my tatted snowflake

It is a very nice pattern called Bloomin' Ice Drop by Diane Cademartori. Really enjoyed this one and plan to make a few to send out for the New Year. I may not want real snow but these are just fine with me. While getting ready to make this I found that I have misplaced some of my shuttles.....seems with my recent moving and rearranging the craft closet a few things are someplace and I have no idea where. Guess I have a new task the beginning of the year.
The Bissell came in from the garage yesterday but so far has not moved. I guess I will have to guide it around the place along with the Swiffer today. I need a maid......
In the meantime, I will get busy with a laundry and house things before anything else. I thought the A/C people were coming yesterday...no, it is today. I will be enjoying dinner tonight with Robyn and Dave across the courtyard so I do not have to plan anything. Off I go to the laundry corner. Glad you stopped by today. I can't believe you even thought about using the saw!!!!!   That is not a piece of equipment made for a woman to handle.  Stan has all he can do to hold onto his when working for a long period of time with it.  It is extremely heavy and I can see you trying to add the Gasoline to it and even the additive.   Knowing you, you would probably wear it before getting most of it into the cutter.".......this is how the email started. My dear side-kick from Rhode Island, Lulu sent this to me. We worked together side by side for some years before my leaving RI. Thank you Lu I will not try to use said equipment. Always a warm feeling when long time friends still lecture you because they care.

I once again have been awake early today. Yesterday I dozed on and off but not today. Lots on my mind...I will try again to get in touch with the landscapers this morning before going to writing class and finally got my appointment for tests for Monday, and whatever else is floating around my head that keeps me thinking. The sun rises around 6:30am now so it is still quite dark outside. Change in seasons....
Yesterday was another not up to snuff day so I did not plan to do anything. Sue dropped by for a quick lesson in 3 needle bind-off for a cute sweater she has knit. Never had much to eat because I was absolutely not hungry all day....unusual for me. Today I seem to be feeling okay. Maybe the changing weather is my issue. Denny used to blame it all on barometric pressure! Sometime this afternoon I must gather up items for the garage sale; empty the electronic cupboard in the garage and box up odds and ends of things. I found a waffle iron (which I will never use) and some glasses and baking things that are not needed. It will be good to send these things off to someone else.

The Snail Vine is growing and growing. Finally reaching the top of the arbor. I find myself trying to convince it to travel in right direction everyday. Once it fills in the top more it will be easier for it to find its way. I found flowers already on the tomato plant. Wish I could remember if I am suppose to remove these early ones or not. This was something I did not pay particular attention to when Denny planted them. I will try to take a picture of the Fairy Duster plant which has seed pods already as well as blooms. All in all the garden is doing well.
Still having issues with Cox and sending emails. They called to follow up yesterday. I am still "between platforms"...that is what Sarah said! Well dear friends, time for the cup of coffee and something to eat....I am starving! Glad to chat with you today and thank you for the kind words and for your friendship.

What have we been up to?

We have been busy....enjoying one another's company and getting around. Alan and Lisa have their places to go and things to do. Thursday was one of those days. We did have the contractor come to measure the front porch area so it will be refinished to a flagstone finish. We began to chat and he is from Rhode Island, grew up in the same area as Dennis and of course frequented the same haunts as we did. What are the odds of that. The work will be done the first week in October.
Yesterday it was off to Carefree for lunch and shopping.

Meet Beulah. Oh my how Denny hated the "skull people" and he always said when I die you can have one in the house.....so here she now lives sitting in her chair and holding an empty pot. Alan and Lisa also found a cactus that we will plant today. Yesterday when I moved one pot in the garden I found

yes, a Praying Mantas and he is still in the same pot this morning. I wonder if I can convince him to move into another pot as I did have plans for this one.  In our yard the critters always have preference.  For now I will not bother him.
When Alan arrived he mentioned he wanted me to make some fresh baked bread. Okay I said, my recipe takes 18 hours to proof...he was not impressed and on Friday this arrived

and last evening we made a delicious bread and as you can see only a little is left. Today we make a French loaf. Tonight Alan will make a shrimp recipe and we will enjoy dipping the bread in the sauce. Plans for today...I am not really sure. We do have some planting to do. I just go along and enjoy the ride and the company.
Right now it is coffee time.......so, I will say how nice it is to chat with you and thank you for your kind words and most of all your friendship.

After the storm

Around 5:30 PM last evening we had a Monsoon storm...the winds were strong...strong enough to scatter pots and debris around the yard and the rains flooded part of the yard.....puddles everywhere. The wind howled and whipped the trees and bushes. Then around quarter past 6 it ended. Today the sun shines and the forecast is for maybe another event tonight. I do not like these storms and it was worse not having Denny here to tell me to not worry. I also did not have to call him in from the garage doorway or the front yard while he enjoyed the storm under an umbrella.

The lavender roses dried to a lovely mauve and I put them on a mirror that belonged to Denny's mother.

His mother gave me her mirror many years ago before she passed. She told me it was from the early 50's and we loved it...marred and all. I usually rests on my bureau and still will. LuLu and Stan are dear friends from RI...Lu and I worked together before I left to move here. Amazing how a flower will change colors ....still lovely and caring memories from my friends fro Denny.
Today the word is Faith.

Now I have mentioned this before (and occasionally received  negative comments) but we were not religious; yes we were raised, baptized and married in the Catholic church...anyway when I began stitching it I told Denny that I did have Faith that the angels would take care of him for me. He told me they needed to take care of me for him. So, they are taking care of both of us. I put a star with a rhinestone  in the center to signify that there will always be a star in the heavens shining from Denny. The tatted butterfly because he loved to go to the butterfly gardens and the butterflies always landed on him never on me! Yesterday was a very long day and too many hours in the darkness. I have been trying to tat today but the cut on the pad of my right thumb is nagging and sore. I think if it would stop bleeding it will be okay. I am pleased to have you visit with me. Thank you for your kind words and encouragement everyday. Thank you for your friendship....Let's have a good day.

After Christmas

Although we had a very relaxed holiday I have been so tired! There is no reason, just tired....

My Santa Dennis deserved this cat nap after cooking a wonderful dinner. Considering all that has happened this month, he is doing very well.  I thought the hat suited him well. I am looking forward to a left over dinner with the roast we enjoyed......don't you love the left overs after a good meal? I received some wonderful exchanges and a surprise gift....

I guess that covers it all....hard to believe the year is almost  to the end....In some ways I will be very happy to see it off. A late start today

Just a short post today. I got a late start to my day, I did not wake until 4:30 AM so I lost a few hours there. Then made the mistake of tuning in to an old movie that I always watch, Waterloo Bridge.... then on to getting the recycle stuff out as Mr H forgot again! The first laundry is in...and I need another cup of coffee this time with toast. Stitching? well I hope to find the time today. We are having a chilly start today, only 57 and breezy, the chimes are singing....
I have mention my dearest back East friend Lu a few times. I got a slap on the wrist of sorts yesterday from her! She follows my blog and well was not happy that there is where she found out the Mr H has not been feeling well. Promptly I sent her back and email with all the details! We are forever sidekicks.... a term we use to describe ourselves. We sat side-by-side when we worked together for some years....we are sisters in our souls. So Lu, if you are reading this, I promise to email you first!. Well, friends, that is about it for today. Glad you stopped by and thank you for your kind words....have a good day.

Winding down

I hope everyone has enjoyed this holiday.... for me, I am looking forward to the new year. I will be making my list and checking it twice....oh no, that's Santa's line! But I will start my list for the projects I hope to do and I think I will organized a basket of patterns (of sorts) to work on. I must share some of my Christmas gifts....

now tell me, who does not love a gift certificate from a craft/needlework supply place? This was from my sis Lynowl...Linda really, but that is my name for her. I will definitely have to look over my wish list there to see what to get.
Then The Debra gave this to me...

a silver tatting charm...isn't it lovely.... I thin it would make a pretty scissor fob for my tatting .... Debra is the wonderful friend who taught me to tat last year. She always encourages me to try new patterns and is there to help when I knot things up! Hard to believe we just met last year.
Oh and my next one....

a wonderful Santa from my dear friends Lu and Stan back in Rhode Island....I love him! He will always be a special piece of my Christmases. He will remind me of my friends in the cold climates...I am still in short sleeve shirts and pants! although this week will be a cooler temperature....
Then there is my SSCS package that was not to be opened until Christmas day...

 It arrived all the way from Queensland Australia from Wendy who has a lovely blog. She designed the stitchery just for me and framed it also. Included were candy bars, red stars a cute red felt bag and ....

a thimble to add to my collection. I love thimbles.... and this is has a delicate painted design on it. All in all, I think I received some very nice gifts this year. I have enjoyed sending out ornaments and other gifts and was happy that they all arrived where they were going. My SSCS package arrived to Fiona

in Australia.... fabric, bag pattern and microwave bowls along with some Southwest hot sauce and Cactus jelly and a snowman's ornament hat. Thank you Chooky for organizing this annual event.
Well, I hope you did not get bored with the many pictures, but I just wanted to share. I am off work until Tuesday..thank goodness. This Christmastime shopping brought out some impatient unhappy rude people. Oh I know some say it is part of the retail world, but I don't think so. My motto...if you are having a bad day, stay home. It did more than not bring some wonderful happy and kind souls to shop. Like the young girl who was in yesterday with her mom. She told me she was going to Illinois to visit family. I asked if they were driving or flying..... "oh I am flying in a plane"...how can you not love the answer. Her mom had the look of how else would you fly, but I found myself loving her answer. I know it is a busy time and for some not so grand a time, but I do hope that you look forward as I am to the  what is ahead ...... glad to spend time with you my friends and hope you have a wonderful day.

 I love visiting with her and you will too....lovely stitching. The colors are lovely...like Raspberry Sherbert, Flame, Evergreen, Cranberry, Cherry and Sage...just to name a few.  A dozen in all...my lucky day! I finished the a on Amazing Grace and almost completed the r.My hands are still feeling really dry so I am not sure if I will be working with Elizabeth today. Lu, are you following all this?! Let me explain: Lu is my forever sidekick back in Rhode Island. We worked together during my last years there in a doctors office, side by side. By the end of our first week, we became sisters.... true friends. Lu telephoned me last night..... we chat like we are still together, well we are in our hearts. We have laughed, we have cried and we have shared secrets. She reads my blog and admitted to me last night that as she does not do any of these things, she gets lost in the posts! Sometimes you just know that a person will always be in your life forever, a true friend, a sister..... that's my Lu. I am so lucky!  Well now, it is time to get to do some laundry and bake that Banana Cream pie that I did not get to do yesterday. With the temps and humidity so hot, it is best to do baking early and this is early. I think I need a Pop-tart too.....glad you stopped by and we chatted today. Have a wonderful day.

Are you ready.....

Mr H and I did a few last minute things yesterday....and then there were a few that did not get done. Oh well, the important ones were accomplished. I will be at work today from 11 to 3 PM...then home to make the lasagna...yes, I make the lasagna. He will make the shrimp for me and lobster for him. There are a few kitchen things that I do! He will be fixing a roast for Wednesday. 
I picked up one of my WIPs yesterday and think it will soon be finished. Went to Best Buy and one of the Geeks got my tablet in order. It only had to have the Kindle app uninstalled and then reinstalled....5 minutes and I am reading again.

Just look at this face!~ My dear friend Lu and hubby Stan have sent me an Ana Lee ornament for the 9 years that we have been here in Arizona. I love them all. This fella stands 6 inches tall. I have a special tree that they all occupy. I will group them together after the holidays and take a picture. The faces always bring a smile to mine. Of course then it brings me to think about these dear friends that I left behind...she and I sat side by side working for a long time. Friends....

Friday at 1:30 pm

Let's start from the start.......
Yesterday was our monthly stitch group meeting. Always so nice to meet up with these ladies and see what the others are doing. Just before I was leaving, Dear Ziz, who is the newly installed Pres Lady, told me she had something to drop off to me.We live as you know a stones throw from each other. Look what she sent via Mr Z

I love boxes and this one is designed by one of my favorite people Susan Winget. But the reason behind giving the box to me is not that I love boxes, not a special day but ....

My name is on the box. Flowers and birds make it just right. The soft colors make it just right. But, it is just right because of my friend, Dear Ziz. I am ever grateful for having her for a friend. We can tell one another anything and we can laugh and cry together.... it is a good thing. It all got me to thinking about another important friend.... My Lu...my forever sidekick back in Rhode Island. I just had to call her and hear her voice. We too share those special laughs, tears and conversation.... I miss her. Okay, time to move on....I am sure you don't want to listen to me blubber on.

excuse the loose thread ends, as I said it is just practice. I want to perfect the stitches then I will try a motif. This is all Nicola's fault... she sent me the book! I am glad though as it is another learning thing and I am all for learning.
So what about the heading? Well, thanks to Shirlee for putting me in touch with a Tatter who lives about a mile from me! I will be having a tatting lesson with the shuttle on Friday afternoon. Isn't it wonderful that we are all so supportive to one another? How we share all that we know and cheer each other and comfort each other. I picture a special place where we will all meet someday among the stars of night and clouds of day...won't we have lots to talk about. In the meantime  while we still are grounded, I am off to work today and hope that your day is nice. Thank you for chatting with me and for the kind words and emails.....hugs to all of you from me.

So early....

Shh....very early here.... Mr H and Zoe are still asleep.. .but I had to set the alarm for 5 am so I could remove Mr H's glass of iced tea from the room. He has what we hope will be a last test today .... at least for quite a while... and he has to fast for 4 hours before. Now he is not and  I repeat  not a morning person so it is going to be one of those mornings...really most of the day...but that is okay. By 1 pm I hope to be at my friend Diana Lynn's learning to Hawaiian Quilt. That is another story waiting....

 Yesterday I mentioned that I was missing My Lu....there will always be only one Lu.....
We worked together side by side for 5 years before I left Rhode Island. From the very first day that I sat in the office right to her right side I might add! we were sidekicks. We clicked and that is it.

We could just as easily laugh together as share a tear. We became sisters. Lu still is working there at the doctor's office part time. One day she will leave and then be a lady of leisure.  We keep in touch by email and occasional telephone call. But I know that I am in her thoughts as she in my all the time. I was so lucky the day I met her and her hubby Stan. Distance does not keep our hearts apart.

Mr H had been telling me that Doctor P was good...can find the pain and take care of it. Well, it seems Mr H was right. My back feels so much better. Work was pretty good yesterday...  off today to meet up with Dianna Lynn and quilt for a bit today. I hope you enjoyed meeting my Lu,  sometimes writing something down makes the missing feel better.
