I feel as if I am in running in circles lately. Notes and more notes to myself and to Mr H....trying to remember too many things. It seemed that we had so much time for this upcoming surgery for Mr H now it is literally around the corner and moving in fast. Today will be the last day of things to do as the day is Monday. This afternoon we need to pre -register Mr H at the hospital. This morning a technician from Cox came to visit. I have had issues with connection for some time on and off. We visited the Cox store the other day back from some appointment and they offered to replace my modem free. I guess today was the morning! Here and gone already but then something clicked in my lost mind...the December card exchange! Can you believe we have come full circle from the the start of this ? So, if you want to be included in the last round, please let me know. And do not feel bad if you can not...I do know how busy everyone is this time of year. What must you think of me....this is the first time I did not mail out any cards!!!! I have mailed a card to everyone each month...just forgot with all this hullabaloo happening at Horton House. But I will mail out for December. Please let me know by December 5th. Are you all ready for Thanksgiving? We are, well I think we are and if not we will make do. For us it will be simple turkey and the fixings; a quiet day. Right now, I must check on the wash that I put in and due to my slipping mind have actually have wash twice already, neverthemind, it will be done by now and a much needed cup of coffee will be in hand. Card Exchange time

It is time to sign in for the November Card Exchange.....I know I usually start asking earlier, but a few of you are on the permanent list. So, if you are interested please let me know. The list will be emailed next Wednesday....My yesterday knitting was a fiasco....let's leave it at that. Hopefully today will improve.The Valley was under thunder and rain on and off all yesterday. There seems to be more sky activity now compared to all of the Monsoon days! The doors were open and the air conditioner was off. Right now (3:10 AM) it is 64 and chilly....expected to be around 74 today with another chance of showers and thunder. Instead of a new car I should have bought a boat or at least had pontoons added to the car. Now, with my glass of iced water in hand I will attempt to get the sock knitting back on track. Remember the blurred picture hint... well this is what it became

I do not always like to stitch on perforated paper because you must leave some of it showing so as not to loose stitching. This did turn out quite cute. It is by the same designer, Brooke's Books that I did the Lady in the shadow box from. I found it in JCS Christmas 2015. I of course made a few changes: I did not add the flower to her hair or the leaves and I added beads for the berries in the wreath. So pretty is Noell. Now on to the next project...or two. First I prepared my cloth for a class I will be in on the 27th in Ribbon Embroidery.

All the stems are ready for their blooms. I do know how to do ribbon embroidery, and as a matter of fact, Lil who will be teaching this class is the same sweet gal who taught the last class. Just thought I would participate again. Yesterday I mentioned the rain storm that was expected---- well it did not hit us here in The West Valley. Once again the skies are cloudy and the temp is cooler but not sure if the rain will arrive. We sure could use some rain. I am need of coffee... I think  Swiss Chocolate Almond will do nicely. And the skies are cloudy

what a cloudy day so far. We are expecting winds and rain and there is a flood advisory for much of Arizona today and tomorrow. Luckily we are in an area that does not flood but still we are careful. The yard will have to be wind-proofed and certainly with how cloudy it is the umbrellas will be folded. What have I been up to...let's see. On Saturday Mr H suggested we go to a garlic festival at the Queen Creek Olive Mill. I really like the Olive Mill but must say that this event posed some problems. Plenty of parking but only one way in/out. The restaurant was so busy many of us did not try for lunch. The wait was over 40 minutes and there were not enough tables to sit at or shade area. We did enjoy the tastings and bought a bottle of Strawberry Balsamic Glaze. The ride was nice and not much traffic.

Every direction we drive around the Valley we see the mountains...this is Superstition Mountain in the area of Queen Creek. We are surrounded by wonderful scenery.

Here along the highway is a giant Gila Monster ... just one of many Southwest icons. Some areas have lizards or just hieroglyphics. Something to see. Recently we have been under another look-out... you may have read or heard on the news about the shootings on the interstate....

these electronic signs are everywhere. There is a $50,000 reward for information. They do have someone under arrest but only can link him to 4 of the shootings. Driving on the interstate is unsettling. We are able to avoid the I-10 for the most part. I am almost ready to show you what I have been stitching....almost. Had some problems with my hand yesterday so rest time was often. But that was fine --- it was football day and in this house we watch all the games. Today Mr H will be looking for the replays.... me, I will stitch and prepare my next project.  Did I mention that I am enjoying this retirement thing? I think that about covers it. Seems like such a long weeek....

Now that I am home everyday and not having select days of leisure, I am doing this and that but not sure what it is. I have a tease...

I am enjoying a cross stitch project but not ready to show it yet. I hope I blurred this enough not to give it away. My 4 square quilt piece is ready for binding and I have decided it will be a table topper. Did I mention that tit is 2:45 AM....I am lost in my world. I woke up thinking of my mom, EvaP who is in hospital (back in Rhode Island) under going tests. The Brother Alan is updating me as often as there is something to say. I spoke with EvaP and she is chipper. So if you have a moment keep her in your thoughts.
I found this cute idea for ornaments...

they are super easy and cute. Two made so far. Just Yo Yos and some beads and scraps of fabric. We need these nice quick projects sometimes.... instant happy. Did I tell you I started making my coffee with fresh ground beans? Years ago I did so all the time.
 Mr H found me a nice Krups grinder at Macy's and I am off and running. Sprouts has a good selection of beans and of course while I was there---yes found some other goodies too. Speaking of coffee...think I will make a cup and curl up the daybed in the sewing room. Glad you stopped by. Thank you for your kind thoughts and words and most of all your friendship. Has it really been a week?

I must say this at home relaxing time sure is nice.... I have relaxed a week away! Yesterday was my last therapy session with Jake. We both agree my hand is where it will be for at least now. Yes, there has been significant improvement, and I still have issues with some swelling and discomfort in the hand. It is what it is. Jake does not recommend my returning to work at this time. I will continue the home therapy plan.On Friday we will see that the surgeon recommends. I have enjoyed reading past week along with a few good old movies. It is still quite hot here..... we actually broke the record for 2 days reaching 117 one of the days. We are in a cool down...only 107 yesterday. I just tell me, myself and I that one of these days I will be sitting outside stitching. I have several projects lined up. Finally got to the post office to mail out the magazines...not an inexpensive deal but I am happy to pass on these wonderful stitching magazines rather than they sit in a box. Before I forget....September Card Exchange list is getting ready...let me know if you are interested. I will email the list by the 29th of August. Guess that is about it for me today. An afternoon post~~~~

Just finished framing Gracie's Meadow

I am really pleased with how it looks. I was so lucky to find a square frame at Jo Ann's that fits the design size which is 5 inch square. This was a fun stitch to do. If you remember...it began here with acrylic paint for the sky and land and a few snap shots of flowers that I had taken and to this. I think I may do a few more; seasonal scenes and they can easily be put into this frame. I have sketched out a couple of ideas. Due to restrictions with my hand I best start them soon if they are to be done at all. Today I see the Hand specialist to report on my therapy. The therapist and I agree more OT is necessary and I am most certainly not ready for work. I do see minimal improvement which is good.  I will be emailing the August Card Exchange list over the weekend. I am so enjoying the handwritten notes and I have even found a couple of recipes and tidbits in some of them. A few of the gals have been part of this every month since we started! I better check my stamp supply....off I go to ice my hand....boring! Thank you for stopping by this day...hope you have a good day.

I think I got lost

Some days seem to blur.... I am not sure what I have been up to! I do know I put a few xx's here and there.... but not enough to take a picture of. I have been to therapy and Jake, my therapist, thinks I need to continue a bit more. There is improvement but maybe more can be achieved. On Thursday he will again take measurements to see. I do see some improvement, but I want more. One day at a time. I must compliment Jake for coming up with ways to help...

This is new strap helps to stretch my finger which is still a little stiff. Instead of me holding in this position ( and it does hut) and not giving it full time to help, this holds it in place. Not the most comfortable, but we hope it will be effective. Home therapy now is with icing, brace, compression glove and now this... no wonder there is little time or comfort for stitching! Oh the mail brought me a gift...

Lynda Ruth is part of our Card Exchange....she sent me a lovely note, a Canadian pin and a thimble! How unique, it is a shape of a house.... love the pin...thank you Lynda Ruth. Speaking of cards, this is it...I will be e-mailing the list on Friday for the August Exchange...so it you are interested in joining us, please let me know. Seems the day here is starting a bit cloudy, but it is expected to warm up to 102 or so. Just another Arizona day....
Back in March I joined the EGA...and finally got my membership card... looking forward to "joining" in and learning new things. So much I want to do!~ Well, at the moment the washing machine is calling to me and I need must have a cup of coffee.... think I will make it an iced coffee. I finally tried.....

It has been a nice morning...not as hot to start the day but getting there. Today may be around 110. Another good stay indoors day for Mr H and me, myself and I. The laundry is done and the living room drapes are stored. The summer set is up. Next to change the bed---oh wait, Mr H is still in bed!
I decided that this would be the weekend to try to make a hexagon piece....

So, I gathered some scraps from the butterfly potholder...gathered a few other things and began. I really think I made some steps harder than they needed to be but all in all I did enjoy the project. My hand did not cooperate most of the time and so it took more time than most might have done. I see that the writing may not be clear, so , the larger ones are 1 inch and the smaller are about 1/2 inch finished. I did enjoy making them, and I know the next will be easier and look better....

Here they are.... I think I may make them into pincushions.... you know I love my pincushions. The size is easier to see in this picture. Needing to rest my hand, I will try to complete the project  later.
I will be emailing out the July Card exchange list later.....it seems all agree that it is so nice to receive hand written notes. As for the Thimble Exchange, it is still open so if you are interested please let me know. Also if you prefer not to mail internationally, that is fine but let me know.

Back to work today

I will be off to work later this morning after a week off..... just the way the schedule is. In a way it is good to rest my hand from the 5 hours of fabric cutting. Then again, it is going to be a long day! I must thank you for the concern and suggestions for my hand. Yes, I have tried the anti-inflammatory meds, the hot and cold compresses, as well as elevation and rest. All have a temporary relief. I am still waiting for the MRI appointment. My blood tests are done so until the next tests it is a wait game. I am just stitching on/off when I can. I think it is good that I am a 2 handed stitcher. Did I mention it is very hot...yesterday we tied the temp of 115...and the whole week is suppose to be like this. House air on as well as the ceiling fans and the car of course. I love the automatic starter so it can be cooled down for several minutes before getting in. Just to go to the garden to water the plants requires a push! It is a busy day here in our homestead....the roofing project continues (my home is not being down yet) and the Palm trees are being trimmed. How these workers can sit on a roof or climb these tall trees in this hot temperatures is a marvel. The roofers can only work from 4:30 AM to around noon and the trees will be down early too. Me, I plan to have very limited outdoor time. I went out to water the potted plants and they will need more by the afternoon. Oh yes, I want to remind you all of the July Card Exchange... I will email the list this weekend and the Thimble Exchange is still open. To answer a recent question, the card exchange is just that...a card only, no gifts (although I have received a few sweet little patterns, the ones that are printed on little cards)---but no gifts. This is to return to the handwritten notes of times gone by.Regarding the Thimble Exchange, it can be what you wish but the important item is the thimble. There, business finished. This entire week will be hot....temps in the triple digit teens.....I will be staying indoors most of the time.

This was yesterday on our return trip home from the doctor. Yes, you re reading it correctly; time 4:13 PM temp 116. Speaking of the doctor--- he did not give me any injections. I went for lab work and will be going for an MRI. It was thought by now my hand would be better. Since I have had no injury to it, there may be another issue so we will look deeper. It is frustrating. Not only the constant ache/pain, but the dropping of things drives me nuts. Of course not being able to stitch more is also a downer. I have tried to do a bit each day on Red...

she is finished and the wolf now has legs to pursue her...but I am holding off on his tail.... maybe to slow him down until the forest is complete! I am not sure if I will be stitching the bottom as charted. I obviously have plenty of time with the slow stitching to decide. To prevent total creative melt down, I am returning to the sewing machine....

this is the material and pattern I got last week. Cute Butterfly potholder. I think the Lady bug might be next.... or the Bee.... eventually all of them. Too cute to use!

A hot quiet day

So nice and quiet this morning... very hot outside though. It is 87 right now and the temp is expected to be at 103 today. The whole week is expected to be 103-111. So I think it is best to stay indoors and enjoy the air conditioning comfort. Mr H and I watched a good movie last night; Night Train To Lisbon. I think I may try to get the book to read. I loved the words that were narrated throughout the movie. I did manage this past week to stitch on and off on Red Riding Hood...she is complete and now to get the wolf some legs and the rest of the forest done. Slow going as I can only stitch for short times. But that is okay. Tomorrow I return to the doctor to see what we can do to help eliminate the swelling and pain. This week is the last to sign up for the July Card Exchange. The Thimble Exchange is still open. I guess that about covers it for today. The laundry is drying, I need another cup of coffee and something to munch. Glad you had some time to visit. Have a great day my dear friends.

Not a routine start~~~~~

On the days that I work, we have a routine; Mr H opens the garage door, he waits as I back out and a wave and I am off. Friday was a little different. Instead of the garage door closing and I drive off-----
as I started out onto the street I was confronted with a coyote chasing a little bunny towards me. I began to sound the horn in an attempt to startle the coyote into retreat and save a bunny. Mr H hearing this thought I needed him, so out around the corner he arrives and I am yelling "a coyote chasing a bunny!" Mr H scoops up some crushed stones and begins to run into the courtyard. Drama as he stops to peek around the wall divider...... when  the coyote runs past him, taking a leap and sailing through the air right over a 6 foot wall! This young coyote never even touched the wall, landing right in front of my car. I slowly followed him up the street to make sure it did not double back to find the bunny. Off he went into another  courtyard and I off to work. Well, I tell you,I only wish I had my camera in hand. What a sight---Mr H in pj's, stones in hand for protection and a coyote sailing through the air! We assume the bunny safely made it back to it's home as there was no sign of it anywhere. Now I know that the coyote must eat, and they do keep the rabbit population under control, but not while I am watching!
Now onto a few new items added to my sewing room.

The pretty rooster fabric is to make a skirt for a shelving unit in the kitchen, and the wonderful potholder pattern and the fabrics to make the butterfly twice.

I found this pattern at Jo Ann's---it is from Indigo Junction, Alice in Wonderland collection. I love the March Hare and the Door-mouse, the other is the Mad-hatter. I have a few days off so I hope the get at least the Butterfly potholders made..... maybe a start on the March Hare too. Since I most likely will be having the injections on my right hand Monday, fine needlework will be out of the question for a few days. This will be easier to do. Oh, I forgot to mention.... we have discovered that our Woodpecker is now stopping by for a drink daily. The House finches are not too happy but wait until he leaves before they stop for a turn at the feeder. The Hummingbird? Well, there is another feeder in the the back yard that he goes to. I do not think the Woodpecker has discovered it yet.

Here he is looking at me look at him through the living room window. What a treat to watch him so closely. Once he leaves, the feeder is quite sticky and needs a refill, but I hope he continues to visit daily.
I have received a few cards from the June exchange... such fun and nice to have cards on display each month. So it is time to sign up for July's exchange...leave a message if you want to join in. Did you miss me?

Well, glad last week is over..... it was a four day work week for me. I much prefer the 2 day week. So easy to get spoiled! My new glass finally arrived and my vision is better for stitching. The eye medication is working for the blurred vision which is wonderful. But the hand has been swollen so not stitching. Can't win sometimes. I do plan to try to do a little stitching today. Red Riding Hood is needing me. We had a wonderful rain storm this past week. So unheard of in The Valley for June.... made the news. Found this after the storm

it was brief, but so pretty. Today we have a breeze but it is too warm to enjoy sitting outside. Besides, I am not feeling too well...is it a cold or just allergies and the change in weather? Whatever it is, I am just going to relax today. The monthly card exchange has been going well....it has been so nice to receive hand written notes and learn a little more about one another. I already have someone ready for July! A sweet friend that works with me, LaTonya, is already signed up. She does not have a blog, but checks mine out and is eager to make some new friends. She also collects thimbles... there was a thimble exchange last month that KimM organized. I was wondering if anyone would like to do a thimble exchange..... let me know. At the moment my cough is returning so I think it is time to curl up and watch the Charlie Chan movie that is on. Really? Almost a week~~~~~

We all say it, where is time going. This week has seemed to float right out of my home and into oblivion. I know it has been relaxing, and Mr H and I have been here and there. Today I think will be a stay at home day. The stitching continues to be slow until I get my new eye-wear. The eye drops are helping. If it is not one thing it is another....my right hand is swelling again. and The pain is returning. But, on a brighter side of things, yes I say brighter..... yesterday morning I decided to sit out in the yard with my stitching. It is a simple piece, an angel, when all of a sudden, a hummingbird whizzed my my face and returned to check out my sewing box. I think the lovely red fabric caught his eye. Of course my camera was not outside with me! Later, Mr H and I enjoyed a drive and lunch out in Scottsdale. I love being able to bring flowers from the garden inside...

Mr H trimmed the Sweet Memory bush and  i thought I would try to put a few sprigs in water. Never have taken any in before. The look like they will last a few days anyway.

They remind me of the Lilacs I used to have back East. For as long as they last, I certainly am enjoying seeing them. I received a lovely card from Lynda Ruth in Canada. She kindly include 2 seed packets; one for Poppies and the other for Forget-Me-Nots. Mr H  took charge of them and has planted them. Hope they sprout and grow. Speaking of cards.....it is the last call for anyone who wants to join the June Card Exchange. I will email participant names on Monday. A fly by~~~~~~

It is a gorgeous morning---sun bright, temp comfortable, sliders open. I can her the gurgle from the pond fountain. Soothing and cheerful.. No stitching, sorry dear Red. Starting the day with a light headache and no ambition. Off to work today, the start of Daffodil Days sale. Found a cabochon bead yesterday for my up coming class. Before buying the seed beads I best look through my bead cabinet to see what is there. Still taking names for the May card exchange. I will send out the list of names on April 20th, so if interested, please let me know by the 19th. I just received a wonderful card from Lynn all the way from Hawaii where she was vacationing. It is fun to receive these cards and a personal hand written note. Join us! Sitching outside.....

Another beautiful day...it is 70 degrees and just lovely to sit outside and work on...

no, not Red, she is still indoors.... this is for Jo's Easter Hop. For now I am not telling you what it is! It will be a dual purpose stitch and I will tell about that later also. I am still taking sign ups for the Card Exchange...email me if interested. It has been so nice to receive cards and hand written notes....some gals have joined in every month. Everyday there are more flowering plants to enjoy in our yard...

this is one of the flowering vinca vines...love the bright white and shocking pink centers. We have them scattered around the yard and they add brightness. Well that is about it as I am itching to get back outside to my project and Mr H who has joined me. Are you ready?

The temperatures here in Arizona have been in the 80's and there is even a probability of them hitting 90 over the weekend! I never know how to call the seasons anymore. What the calendar says and what the real weather is, well, let us just say that it is getting warmer quickly around here. Our Card Exchange group has already mailed out for several months....are you ready for April?

These are the  March cards I received.....Debbie sent a recipe and June sent  a cute Irish girl with her card,  Lynda A and I picked out the same cards to send! Customers can make my day

I have been with Jo Ann Fabrics going on 8 years this August. Some days are much more difficult than others....then a customer comes along who appreciates you...

and makes it better. We have what is called "A Cut Above" award. Tiny scissors that we can attach to our aprons and along with each pin is the note from the customer.....Yesterday I received another one that made my day.....It is the one in the center about the crabby customer! We all remember the ones that give us grief as well as the pleasant kind customers. I guess what I want to convey to you is that if you have the opportunity to compliment a worker, do so not only to them personally but to management.....it can really make our day. I wear a few on my apron, but I have a fair collection as you can see....and proud of them I am! Are you in for this? My co-worker Arlene found this web page and asked me to submit to it...She got Bing Crosby's White Christmas...I got The Old Lamp-Lighter by Sammy Kaye and his Orchestra! She finds these crazy things all the time....
  Yesterday one of my customers noticed the red swollen hand and after I explained she said..."it is tough getting old" then asked my age and said "see what I mean"! (I am 68, she is 75) As she left the counter she patted my hand and said "just do the best you can".
 This morning I am stitching on Pink Lady Bustle and not having difficulties with my hand.The swelling is down but the discomfort remains. I am determined to stitch so stitch I will!!! I will be emailing the March Card Exchange list out on Sunday, so there is still time to join in....email me your mailing address if this is the first time. Change in plans....and a win!

First, I won a drawing over at Tammy's place...

so creative! I just love when someone has an idea and goes with it. This is wonderful. Tammy's blog is so nice be sure to pop over and say hello. I like that I can change the inside when new ink is needed....not just a decoration, but a usable pen for my sewing room.
Now for the other news...if you follow me on Facebook, you saw the picture of my right hand....

The first real issue with this was this past June. X-rays showed that I have arthritis in the first finger and first and second knuckle with inflammation between those knuckles. Well, it is blooming again so back to the surgeon for an injection yesterday...actually 2 injections into the area. I actually left work a little early on Thursday because it was swollen and very painful. Today, it is the same with a little more pain. What to do! Obviously, my stitching plans for the next few days are not to be. Work today will be interesting trying to measure and cut fabric for 5 hours..... it will certainly be slow going. I guess there will be more relaxing in the yard this weekend..... Vickie had asked about predators with having fish in the little pond.... the solution is that we have a cover that would hide them from the hawks that frequent the area.Rather than try to disguise it, Mr H painted it to be obvious and the orange is a nice color.

Simple but effective. The water sounds are not so loud as to attract hawks but pleasant enough when we are outside. Some of the "regular" birds  stop by for a drink. When Mr H drains some of the algae water off, he uses it to water the garden plants. Mind you, we have a Rain-bird system in the yard that he does not use because he prefers to water the plants himself. It keeps him busy. Typing this morning has been slow and uncomfortable, so off I go now to look at my Red Riding Hood instead of stitching on it!
