Snowflakes

The weekend is past..... a quiet weekend. The boxes were sorted, sort of. I merely moved some to one area and a few others to another. The Village boxes are ready to unpack and will be set up in a new place this year. That is what happens when furniture is rearranged and not available to use the same way. The table in my bedroom is ready for the small tree that will be placed there. The front porch area will need a furniture move for the tree that will be out there. And so it goes...I seem to always be moving things. The living room window has been washed in and out and the sheers are changed.

I now have a silver trimmed snowflake to go with the gold one. I think they look nice together and will hang on my beaded display for the holiday. My felt tree will have all the tatted snowflakes. The trees will need to be unpacked and vacuumed…. yes vacuumed to be sure no hitch hikers moved in during the summer spent in the garage. So this will be a busy week.
Are you ready for Thanksgiving? You do realize that it is this Thursday! This year I even have chestnuts which I really feel are a must. We always had chestnuts for Thanksgiving in our house. Dad would cut and roast them and then peal them for us. I love them fixed all ways even raw.

Another tatted snowflake

The doors are open.... for now. The temp will be hot soon but I cannot resist having the doors open early in the day. The breeze is beginning to ring the Buoy Bell and the chimes a bit more so  the umbrellas will stay closed. Laundry is finished but not the housework. The Faery Cleaners once again skipped my house. So, I plan to meet up with Bissell and Swiffer and get it done myself.

again a snowflake from Jennifer Williams book. This may be the last for now as I want to make a beaded bauble and of course want to try a Wire Wrapped Cabochon. Both projects require a few more supplies. I think since I will be out to the doctor on Thursday I will stop at Jo-Anns to see if I can get them there. So glad my hand is cooperating. Now we just need the ankle to behave.
All is well in the garden area. My herb pot is not on the watering system... yet.... so I must remember to get out there daily to give it water. So far so good. I do not mind the various birds who stop by the pond to bath or drink but I really wish they would take the feathers they drop with them when they leave. Tomorrow will be skim the pond day. For the rest of this day I will read and relax. I was not having a very good day yesterday when The Brother Alan gave me a call just at the right time. After a chat and a few tears (my tears) I felt much better. Later we Skyped and that too was a nice way to end my day.

Miss Lady Bug is sitting in the white chair for the season. I miss seeing ladybugs in the garden.... never have I seen them here in Arizona. In a way that is a good thing because they are usually around when plants have mites. I do plan on getting a rose bush when The Brother Alan returns in September and that may bring the mites. Not to think about it yet.
Recently, Lisa sent me a picture of herself at a riding lesson. She takes English riding lessons....

Her instructor took this lovely photo in almost complete silhouette. I won't mention that she recently had a tumble off the horse..... bad Lisa tried to get him to take a jump but he decided it was not to be. Just a few colorful bruises for Lisa and probably snickering form the horse. I would suggest the next time she wants a horse to jump....did I tell you that the jump was only about 12 inches... the horse should be asked first!

...but I know better!

It is a lovely morning....sun bright, birds chatting and I thought well why not get out to the garden and clean.  The temp is not bad and the sun is still low.Why not start to clean the pond. Why not? To clean the pond; first remove the faux grass, then skim most of the debris out and then add chemical. Leave until tomorrow to finish removing the debris that loosens. Then trim the tall grass and an unwanted plant, sweep fallen leaves and debris that blew in form someplace else and deposit into the trash bag. Well, I almost slipped into the pond climbing around it to throw in the granules. Then while cutting the grass.... and I know better....I said stop! get your garden gloves...the pretty bright pink ones....did I ???

Too lazy to walk into he garage and this is what happens...the Fountain grass is very sharp and it cuts and scratches deeply.
Moving on, I thought the bag was secure in the barrel but why would it be. So, as I pulled it up most of what was in was outside the bag  fell all over the place. Guess what I did? If you guessed that I left it you guessed right. After the last garden cleaning and the bite and infection I decided to leave it until later.
The Gaura is blooming and so pretty.

The Society Garlic is almost doubled in size. All in all the garden is flourishing.

When I was out with Glenda last week I found this metal display. My snowflakes look nice hanging form the hooks. I began to tat another one using a plastic ring...but the ring was too small and the others I have are too big so I ordered the correct size from Amazon and they arrive Tuesday.
On Friday The Brother Alan sent me a text that EvaP ...AKA mom... fell and was on the way to the ER. The end result is that she broke the hip that she had a replacement done a few years back. She is not a candidate for surgery so into rehab she goes today to try to get this to heal on it's own. She is 92 years old. This will be a long haul for her as she is stubborn. I get updates from The Brother Alan and sis Lynowl daily. So.... it is a wait and see.

Blooms in the garden

Some days actually are cloudy here in The Valley of the Sun....but inevitably by afternoon the bright sun and heat arrive. It has been around 97-99 this week and today is expected to be another hot one...above average temps. Of course there is air conditioning everywhere so it is not too bad.
Yesterday I tried to get in touch with my sis as I thought I would get her birthday gift now rather than wait until the end of May...the stores were having great sales.  I never did get in touch so I went shopping for myself...great deals that I could not pass up. Then it was back home to read for the later part of the afternoon. I di however finish

Thank you for the kind words regarding my anniversary. Each of these "firsts" is a day to get through. I do know that I am not the only person in the world to go through these days, However, it is me that I have to deal with. Yes, I have been strong but there are times when I fall apart but I try not to show that to anyone.

On Wednesday Dianna called to invite me to lunch with her and Bobby. So we met up and I left my car and off we went to a few thrift shops, then back to Cheesecake Factory for lunch. We had  a nice meal and chatted away and we enjoyed the day. These kind friends just wanted to be sure I had company and laughs...good company and we always laugh. It really did help not to be home alone.
No plans for today...just laundry and maybe a new tatting project.... there is a pattern that was given free with the invitation to make it your own..."make me pretty butterfly" so I may try it. I am still reading a couple of books so that is also on my mind to do. How about the garden?

Sunday morn

Oh it will be a lazy day as I start it feeling very tired. I have been awake since darkness was outside my bedroom window.... but it was just the start of the London Marathon. Of course that is what I decided to watch and now need a nap. Watching those athletes I am amazed at their stamina. The result of this lack of sleep is now a minor headache.

I have mentioned the crow that stops by every day to visit the small waterfall in my pond....here he is chatting away outside on the rooftop edge. Sometimes he stops by the birdbath out front of the living room window always with much racket. Yesterday I noticed as he flew off there was another one with him....mind you I am not sure of this is a he or she, but there were two of them. Daily entertainment.
I did start another snowflake yesterday.

This one is made using 2 shuttles and is interesting. My hand was an issue so hopefully I will finish it today ... if I can stay awake. I did have other plans and that was to start to cut out a pattern for a horse... but that definitely is going to not happen today. Luckily for me neither of this has a time limit.... at my leisure. I like that word---- leisure. It even sounds relaxing.
I really need to curl up someplace...so, it really is nice to chat but off I must go to nap. Thank you for your kind words and visit and most of all thank you for your friendship.

All my ducks in a row....

The doctor appointment went well...all my lab work was good and just a minor adjustment to my meds. Of course my allergies which have been silent for years are back. These very windy days are the reason so I am limiting my outdoor work for now. I probably can manage early outdoor cleaning up.

This 13 gallon trash bin was filled the other morning and by the next day I could have filled it again with debris from the winds. They have really been strong gusts of around 30 - 40 mph. Forget the pond....the leaves can float! But...

all my ducks are sitting it out! I really should remove the artificial grasses so it would be an easier and quicker clean of the leaves floating. That will be tomorrows or later this afternoons job.
I was surprised to find that the tomato plant is still producing...

4 cherry tomatoes for my salad tonight. I guess I will just let it continue for as long as it will thrive. Very happy that all is well in the garden..... dusty, but all blooming. I do have one plant that has not survived and needs to be replaced. I had hoped it would revive itself but not to be. Next trip to Lowe's I will replace it.
Hannah is completed

I love using buttons in my needlework. This looks delicate with the lacey chains around the edge. It was a quick tatted snowflake and now is on the tatting tree. Have not decided on my next one yet. Very much enjoying this book of patterns. There are only a couple that I most likely not tat.
So, that is about it from here. I need another cup of coffee and since Debbie mentioned poached eggs to me the other day I have had the craving for them....so that is todays breakfast with toast. Debbie shares recipes with me....one for English Toast Bread that I will try to do in my machine and a nice simple roll recipe (by hand) that I am looking forward to trying. For now it is poached eggs and toast with coffee. Glad you had some time to visit  and  I thank you for your kind words and most of all your friendship.

A cloudy Sunday

Happy Easter to all and yesterday was Passover so Happy Pesach.
The sky is cloudy and the forecast for today is low 90s and I do see a hint of the sun. There are so many pretty blooms and colors in my garden so with or without the sun it is a pleasant place to sit as I plan to do shortly.

Today is International Tatting Day and I have finished Helen but not yet starched and blocked. I enjoyed working with beads for this one. I used soft teal beads. I am eager to start another of Janet's patterns. I was asked if I have given up cross stitch...no not really but I do enjoy other needlework and tatting is easy on my hand. I am still de-stashing also so soon I will be posting my Spring Clean out.
Something I ate yesterday ... although delicious...caused me lots of grief last evening so today I am quite tired and plan on having a lazy day. I will start a bread soon and this week I guess I will need to start to look for a new washing machine. I really do not want to get caught with a wash that cannot finish. Yesterday it sounded like it was going to definitely give out. A visit to Lowes and Home Depot is on the Monday agenda. I am sure one of them has the right deal.

The moon, Helen and a horse

What a spectacular moon last evening. I watched it on/off for several hours. Full moons captivate me especially when they are so gigantic.

Early in the evening around 7PM it began to rise with a still light blue back round. It looked like a picture. Then later as I went back out to the garden.

Against the darkness it seemed to just hang there. The evening temperature was still in the 80s and I could have just sat out there all evening.
Thursday afternoon I started to tat Helen, also from Janet Williams snowflake book

 

I am using a soft teal color bead with this one. Would have had more done on it except I went out with Glenda and Don to an art festival where Glenda and I found some special items. I came home with this

Just had to have this neck piece and filigree horse pendant. We had a nice day walking around the Cave  Creek and Carefree area then had lunch before returning home to their house for Lemon Meringue pie and coffee. Wonderful day spent with these special people.
Today will be a little garden work and then return to my tatting and reading. The temps for the week are expected to be in the low 90s. Some plant protection and checking the irrigation  flow so all will be well out there. The pond needs some attention too. Right now however, the coffee has finished brewing and the aroma is calling me. Thank you for taking the time to stop by and thank you for your kind words and your friendship.

Spring cleaning started

Well, just my bedroom but it is a start. We really had hardly any winter at all.Window and slider open just a bit more to organize but one room down. The air is cool but perfect for airing out the house. Seems I can not zip through the house like I used to..... it is the age thing. The pond water is babbling and the birds are chatting. I hope to sit outside today for a bit.
Sunday I visited and had lunch with my friend JeanneG and yesterday I was out with Dianna and of course lunch....Friday will be with Glenda and Don....gee, it sounds like a big social calendar. In the meantime I did finish my tatted snowflake......

I really like this book by Janet Williams...all the patterns appeal to me. It is all starched and hanging on my tree branch. Yesterday I finally picked my strawberries...

Five petite but oh so delicious gems. There are several more on the plant. I am sure it would do better if it were in the ground, but I have more of a chance loosing them that way. I actually bought it for looks more than as food but I will take whatever it gives.  I have been enjoying my chives and basil too. I need a few annuals to add to the garden. I need to freshen up the 2 pots out front but will wait until the landscapers finish the new rock addition.

Sun~day without the sun...

Actually the sun is in and out and the temps are cool this morning. I am feeling chilly....have been sneezing and a stuffy and runny nose all morning. Could be allergies....better be allergies and not a cold coming on. Yesterday I started Auriel from Jennifer Williams tatting snowflake book

but it was slow going due to my hand issues

yes, it is sore and the swelling is down this morning. It seems that using my right hand for periods of time causes it to become inflamed. Using the medicated gel does help as does rest. So it is slow and resting with all that I am doing. The damage is not repairable and it is a cope with it plan. I will probably read in between the tatting today.
Yesterday I picked up this bright plant for the kitchen....I needed some cheer.

...it is a miniature rose in my favorite rose color. I will probably take  it out to the lanai but back in for evenings. Right now the laundry is swishing around and another at the ready to take it's place. Each wash reminds me of the fact that the strange noise coming from the washer signals it is on borrowed time.
It is time for the clothes to be fluffed so I will dash off to the laundry area. Glad you stopped by to chat. Thank you for your kind words and for your friendship.

A very productive Thursday

What a beautiful morning...the sliders and front door are open and the air is perfect. Dust levels are still down due to the rain we had which I think amounted to about/if at all 1/4 inch!

This is Alison from Jennifer Williams book. Just need to tuck in the threads and starch it. I am really enjoying these snowflakes. My branch is getting quite full.
Yesterday I was determined to tackle the pond repair myself. I know I can always call Don and he will help me but I do not want to take advantage of him and Glenda. She and I enjoy sitting with a cup of tea or out to Mimi's for lunch...that is what we did on Wednesday....Dennis did not like going there and Don does not like going there so we enjoy going there! Anyway, I had already used the sump pump (which was found when I cleaned the garage) and that was easy enough. Now the task was to be able to reconnect the pump to the pipe in the bottom of the pond.

The pond is not a big pond.. thank goodness because I had to get into it to attach the pump. It is in the corner of the garden. Once I got it together (took about 10 minutes for my hands to work) I tested it with some added water and voilà!

the pump did not come apart and the water started to fall over the rocks! I did it but golly! The grass patches are floating and the ducks are swimming.
While the pond was filling I swept the garden and pulled up the string beans which stopped producing. I need to get a few annuals for added color and replace a plant or two. Then it was inside to toss out a couple of plants that were 14 years old and were not well at all. The tomato plant still has some green tomatoes so I will leave it for now.
All in all it was a very productive day. Today is a relax and tat day and since it is so beautiful out in the garden I may just sit out there. Not getting my hopes up, but I have been seeing Doves in the garden again....maybe...

There was rain in The Valley of the Sun

The sun is shining and there is a nip in the air...okay it is down right chilly out there. We had rain yesterday on and off but it was raining and I can prove it

Everywhere I look there are rain drops still holding on and soon the sun will dry them all up. I love being in the garden after a rain. Everything looks bright and fresh and there are water diamonds everywhere you look. Soon it will be time to prune a few of the plants to get ready for summer. Now all my tools for the garden are sharp and ready. Later today...maybe...the pond will get some attention. I have the pump and will drain it so I can get it working again.

Chilly in Arizona

The winter temperatures have finally arrived and I am not happy. No indeed. It is almost Spring and I do not like to put on socks and long sleeves now! It will soon be March and to me it means Spring. The garden is not happy either.....a few plants look unsure of what to do next. So far the "alien" Snail Vine is not slowing down but my lovely geranium is thinking about calling it quits. So spoiled I am with the usual Arizona warm temps.
I should begin by telling you that my legs are finally feeling better, still very tender in certain areas but a lot better. It is a longer process than I thought it would be. Still using all the prescribed medications so I still start my morning a bit scattered in the brain.....some would say not too  different for me! I did keep busy yesterday.....I started tatting another Snowflake

I would have been a littler farther along except I cut the wrong thread and voila! had to start over. So I took a break

moved to my sewing corner and cut out the clothing for Dolly. All set to sew...almost. Trying to decide on the dress part...so I took a break.....brought something into the garage and decided to start to paint my mail box. Our "mailboxes" are really a mail slot from the outside of our garage and the mail drops into the garage. In my case the former owner had built a box for the mail to drop into. The inside area is now painted and today I will do the outside which is still inside...right. The only time to do this is from Saturday afternoon to Sunday as there is no mail delivery. Just adding a bit of color to an all white garage interior...which is quite boring. So, as you can see I did start a few projects and took a few breaks and today will hopefully get back to all of them. Finishing just one of these projects would be nice.
I did enjoy the Olympics especially the Curling and the skiing. Not so much the skating this time. I am not a big baseball fan so sports for me will be on hold for awhile. Guess if it gets warmer I can turn to gardening. Finally found the number of the guy to sharpen the tools so I will be calling him today. He is a mobile van and will sometimes come to you. Getting organized is the goal. Well, I think I need to go sit for awhile until the sun rises and my light-headedness lifts. Thank you for taking the time to visit and for your kind words. Oh that wind!

In the very early morning hours I was awaken with the sounds of something blowing around the garden.....sounds of things banging. I did not go and check but did wonder what was happening in the garden that I carefully cleaned the day before. Yesterday Glenda and I enjoyed tea in the garden which was fairly clean until the winds tossed about a plant tray, the small trash container and leaves from trees that I do not have. This morning it is still a little windy. Once I have my coffee and toast I will clean up the mess.

Finished my gold bead snowflake...Vivienne from Jennifer Williams book. (She names each of her patterns.) A little fiddly but pretty once done. I am trying to decide which to make next. A good pattern book for sure.

This what the moon looked like yesterday morning...almost at it's full glory. Beautiful against the morning blue sky. I hope the skies remain clear for the full moon on Wednesday evening.
There is still only the one egg in the wall planter and no signs of the Dove couple these last two days....very irresponsible If you ask me. They probably can no t remember that they are building two abodes and where they are!
The sounds of the fresh brewed coffee tell me it is ready for me so I must dash off. So nice to visit with you here at my place. Thank you for your kind words and for your friendship.

Things going on......

A bright sunny day and they say we will be back in the 70s today. I managed to get lots done yesterday. Don had come by to get something and then helped me with the tool cupboard. Goodness we were able to toss out lots of stuff that I will not need and then into the garden where he helped me secure the Firecracker Bush and cut down the grass. I did discover that my cutting tools need to be sharpened and that I really should have worn my gloves. The grass cuts like paper cuts and that is right, I have them on the finger tips of my left hand. We will not discuss the scratches to my arms from the cactus. Don suggested that I cut back where the "alien" Snail Vine was growing to the house....I did that.  I think it has been interfering with the amount of light getting to my Hot Lips plant. The pond still needs to be skimmed and that will be probably later today or tomorrow.

I think Prince Richard has been helping himself to the chocolates....now before you think I have tattered table scarves, well, it is but it is because this love piece of white on white embroidery is probably 50+ years old. I have several old pieces that are less than perfect. It has character.

When I looked out the kitchen window she was sitting on the chair back....Don spotted an egg in the wall planter yesterday and yet they are building on the clock. This is one confused pair of Doves! They disappear most all day returning at night and early morning. She moved to the top of the back gate and he is someplace near the pond.

My gold beaded snowflake is growing ever so slowly. I had made an error, took forever to undo, now the cut to the tip of my finger and distractions, I am determined to finish this by Sunday.
Laundry number 2 is swishing and then it time for walking the Bissell and swinging the Swiffer. When all is done I will sit and read for awhile......started When Ghosts Speak. Reading will rest my finger tips and keep me out of the garden! I am happy that you took time to visit. Thank you for your kind words and your friendship.

Friday and the Doves

Here it is Friday...another week passing by. This weekend I will be joining many gals with the
International Hermit and Stitch Weekend  -- takes place every 3rd full weekend of each month, from Friday till Sunday. In our very busy and hectic lives, IHSW is a chance for us to squirrel some time away for ourselves and "Hermit and Stitch." It is a time set aside to take care of us and our love for stitching.

a Tilda doll yet unnamed. She will be about 16 inches tall and so far I am still not sure about clothing fabric. This is the first time I will be participating in this event and hope to join in each month. All types of needlework are included which is nice.
Yesterday my footstool

I noticed it when I took it from my bedroom to use with the rocker in the living room. It will need some care very soon. I guess I am not the only thing in the house with a leg problem! I think I will be on the look-out for another one...footstool that is.
I was asked where do I keep my snowflakes and Icicles....

They are hanging on a tree branch that Denny cut for me a few years ago so that I could display whatever. Right now it is the snowflakes. I do have my felt tree that has my other tatting. I think I will make "nodules" here and there to hold them in place better.
News to share...The Doves have settled into a place to live...back to the clock...I prefer them there as it is a better sheltered spot from the hot sun and we can avoid walking by them. So for now while they are settling in I will block off the path in front of the construction zone.
Yesterday was my PCP appointment...she is not pleased, sort of. My blood pressure is high again. So, I will begin to keep a record and upon my next visit ( with lab work) we shall see. I really like her and her staff. Where else does a doctor hug you upon entering the room and tells you to call the office at any time there may be an issue and where the office manager Debbie greets you with a hug and cares about you and misses Denny. We have been going there for almost 14 years. When Denny was ill they both called me frequently to check on us both. I am lucky to have them for a care team.
Well, I should get the bed made, take the Bissell for a walk around the place and invite Swiffer to join us then I can relax. Thank you for your kind words and your friendship.

Lovely Mary Snowflake

Just a quick post...the morning has passed me by! I have a doctor appointment and will be leaving shortly but I wanted to show off Mary

the newest snowflake (from Jennifer Williams book).  A little tricky at first, but once I got the pattern established it was not bad. I would like to make one with gold beads. it still needs starching to add the stiffness that it needs.
The Doves are starting to spend the nights in the garden and as of today they have switched where they will construct their home. First one planter then the other and this morning back to the clock. Don't know what the issue is because the lease amount is the dame for all the garden. I hate to disturb them when they are here busy, so I will go out to check on things later this afternoon. The temps are cool this morning and are going to jump back to the mid 70s.
The A/C unit is still making the humming (loudly) noise....guess that will be a call to make....again. I do not seem to be getting anywhere with this problem.
Well, hate to shoo you off,   cut this short, but I have to drive about half an hour to the appointment so best get a move on. Thank you for your kind words and your friendship.

A box of Wheaties found!

Laundry done, coffee drank and now I am tatting a new snowflake

This is from my newly purchased book and I hope to make them all! I love using beads in all my needlework so this is a plus that there are a few in the book. I enjoy a challenge and tatting with beads can be just that.
I am still in the re-arranging of the craft closet. So, yesterday I decided to find a new place for all my photo boxes to a place I had not moved items on a closet shelf that essential was Dennis' storage area.

This was behind a binder....an unopened box of cereal with the NE Patriots on the box from Super Bowl #36 in 2002. I had forgotten all about this box. When he bought it I thought I would get to eat the cereal and (he does  did not like wheat products) his response was ---  I am saving this box as is and maybe one day Tom will sign it for me ----. Well, now what? Guess it will sit on a shelf someplace else --- unsigned. Still discovering things.....

It is everywhere...and even stepping on it does it no harm! It is almost impossible to walk under the arbor s it is almost 2 feet deep and reaches out everywhere! Truth be told, I love it's wild look. The blooms are delicate and pop out here and there.

Yesterday I also cut out the body for a Tilda doll which I will work on this weekend. Now to pick out fabric for clothing....as difficult as it can be to go out and buy new clothes.
Finally made it to the post office yesterday. The package will arrive (hopefully) on Friday at it's destination.
