Earthquake!

 Another hot day and it would seem these triple digits are here to stay. It was 101 yesterday and today? maybe 105. In the Indeed, it was meantime, Alan is still in Alaska until Sunday and his temps are in the 50s during the day. It was raining yesterday there. Sunday night while looking out the hotel window and talking to Lisa, the curtains moved and the window too and so did he feel movement. He hung up and call down to the desk...they said not to worry it was only an earthquake. Alan dressed and left the 14th floor and went downstairs. It really was an earthquake that was about 130 miles north and it was a 6.1 magnitude. Earlier there were a few smaller ones that did not register in Anchorage. Alan said he would put hazard pay on his expense report!

This is the new egg cooker...small like a toy! It works just fine. Well, I do have to try the poached eggs again. The hard cooked ones are great.

It has accessories...a scramble egg bowl, an egg poacher dived dish and of course it  also has it"s own special measuring cup. It will musically start and when finished plays another tune. It is all automatically timed and as you can see in the first picture, it all stores under the cover. I just love gadgets and things to make anything easier.

Lisa and I did some crafting yesterday..

these are several Heating pad Llamas waiting for me.

Once Lisa cuts them out and all their pieces, I embroider the faces. She will then sew them into Llamas. I love doing the hand sewing. I must say, Lisa is gaining more confidence with her cutting out and sewing. 

A few months ago Alan decided to spread some flower seeds. Just as he began a bit of wind arrived and the seeds went ... well who knows. Nothing seemed to be growing until this Blanket Flower appeared.  I found another tomato  growing but it is as small as a pin head. The plant itself is growing so tall. The basil and oregano are doing great. I still need to replace the Rosemary and parsley as well as chives. That will be when Alan returns. 

Did I mention that there is a special door at my bedroom doorway?

Hope this means they will be moving in and help around here. In the meantime, glad to visit with you today. Thank you for your kind words and for your friendship. 

Must say thank you for all the good thoughts and prayers for my niece Tonya. She is doing so well.

Alan's new friend

 Another beautiful day. the sliders are open until the heat arrives later. Yesterday was the podiatrist visit. the decision at this time is to treat an Achilles tendon issue. Steroids for the week, 4% Lidocaine patch during the day and a brace to stretch the tendons at night. Not sure how I will be able to sleep with the contraption on. Also...no walking barefoot! what will I do? I need to wear backless with a bit of lift heel shoe so not to be flat to the ground. Sis Lynowl said she is going to order a bubble to put me in!!!  it will be interesting to see what Murphy will have to say about the brace.

Alan waited outside while I was in the doctor office. That is where he met this fellow. A young coyote who remained about 10 feet away while they chatted. The time of morning was 11:15...they are out at anytime at anyplace. 

Today will be a lazy day except for swishing and fluffing in the laundry area this morning. I may make a new travel pillow size pillowcase for my pillow on my rocking chair. Those pillows fit so nice for the lower back. the faeries still have not arrived to do the chores so off I must go. So nice to chat with you today. thank your for your kind words and for your friendship.

And the beads go on......

A lovely morning. The  sliders as well as the front door are for now. The temp is expected to be around 106-ish as it was yesterday. The weekend may reach 110, so definitely indoor activity only for me.
Tea and Pizzelles with Glenda yesterday.... good catching up conversation too. Isn't it nice that when friends have not shared company for a bit that when you are together it is as if you visited just yesterday. Glenda and husband Don have been good friends..... she and I shop or have tea and Don teaches and helps me. Great combination.

 

Today starts the beading for On The Range. I love Mill Hill kits and have been stitching them for years. Usually when you get kits, all threads and beads and even needles are provided. This kit did not have the beading needle, no problem as I have many. The threads for this kit were in some colors just enough. You would think that because the threads which are not specialty threads and inexpensive, would have a bit more than needed... remember, if you must take out then you are running very close or out of thread. Luckily for me on a few of the colors I had my own stash. This is merely a statement not a complaint.... not really. Anyway, onward to the beading today. I love the honey color for the hat outline.
Can you believe that this month is almost over? This week has been like a fast moving train…. the weekend is just about here! As a reminder, Vicki posted on her blog that we have only 26 weeks until Christmas! I have only 2 gifts ready. I really do not have a big gift list so I still have time. Nevertheless, I will buckle down to accomplishing filling my sleigh.
Time for my second cup of coffee... as soon as I get my chores done. Whoever has my House Fairies, I would appreciate you return them so I can just sit and bead. It has been nice chatting with you. Thank you for your kind and caring words. Thank you for your friendship.

Saturday and one more day...

Friday is over...and not too soon. The day started okay..... instead of waiting for the House Faeries I decided I best do it myself while I can. Received the call giving me the surgery time for Monday... will be 1 PM Arizona time. All in all I will be there about 4 hours. So far I have done well getting organized for being right hand incapacitated. More to be done today. Getting some meals ready is not like me....do not like having too many things in the fridge already prepare but it is what I need to do. Tried using the left hand and a knife for cutting up vegetables...let's just say it is on the list along with climbing a step ladder. Yesterday afternoon it was out of my courtyard into the next to attend a celebration for Bob's 80th birthday. Rachel set out a nice spread of Hors d'oeuvres and a selection of wines.... good friends and nice chatter. Once back home I decided to do this and that. One of the that was to finish putting a print into a frame.

Into the garage to get the frame. I reached into the top of the cupboard and the frame came apart...evidently the backing was not secured to the front.... result a small but nasty cut on my wrist. Took quite a while before it stopped bleeding through the Band-Aids.  Dealing with someone else's blood is one thig, mine is a different story.Really sore today. So I stopped all that activity right away.

Yes, it is the Bottle Brush tree in front of my house but look closely...there is my Gila Woodpecker.... see him yet? Camouflaged with the bark. When he is getting ready to swoop down for a drink he calls out very loudly from the tree.

Then he hands and drinks. Yesterday his mate came along but was took quick for me to capture I picture. He is very entertaining hanging and swinging.
The craft cart is away and out of sight...so I will not feel tempted to try to do anything for the next few weeks. A few books are on the table waiting to be thumbed through...yes I do read on my tablet but these are in hand books. Sometimes I really like the feel of a book in hand. Trying to find a few good movies.. I am so fussy... to watch.  I found Agatha and The Truth of Murder....should have saved it! It was quite good.
Off I go to cut up veggies and make some chicken soup. Tomorrow I will swish clothes and fluff them. I admit to be nervous about the surgery.... anytime I have general anesthesia I worry. It usually take a little longer for my body to be rid of it..... guess I will be napping until Tuesday.

Can't believe it is Friday!

This week really has passed me by. Maybe it is the crazy weather here in Arizona. First we are in a freeze warning and the overnights were cold...then it warmed up then we actually had a day of 70. We had some rain and now they say we should have more this weekend. Why would I be surprised; it is winter after all and this is what is winter here. The high country had snow. Speaking of the high country... the end of December Shelly's post began with song lyrics and she asked who knew them and I was the first to comment and I won...yes, a gift certificate to 123 Stitch! What a surprise. I already took a look and found several Mill Hill beaded kits...now to make my selection. Shelly is one of those who is in the high country and gets snow. 
I also ordered the coating for my Russian Leave earrings. I plan to use it on other beaded projects that could be better if stiffer; my Santa earrings for example. Yesterday I began to get the garage straightened out. Amazing what the Holiday Faeries did out there. Trash pick up was today so that made it a good day to bag and toss. Some of the garden debris too. The Brother Alan and I have new plans for the pond. One of these days I will get to show you; that will be when he is back out here in a few months. I am sure looking forward to their return. I know they are eager to be here.

Starting the day

Some days are just a slow start. Today is feeling like one of those. I woke at 6 AM and still feel tired. Finally had a cup of coffee and would like another. This is shaping up to be "one of those days". I can just feel it. My hand is less swollen and the redness all about gone but it is still sore so I will continue the medicated gel and try to rest it. This is always hard for me. I want to do this or that..... should do this and that but I know if I do not rest the hand it will only take longer for it to feel better.
I mentioned to The Brother Alan that I wanted to change the furniture on the lanai. So we did order a grouping from Lowes.

The settee and table along with a pair of chairs. When it was delivered all but one of the back cushions were messed up. They were pack so tightly that they were misshaped. After a few calls a delivery to my home from Lowes with 3 new cushions.  Great customer service. The lanai is due for a change and this is the start. I would like to remove a few other things form the lanai but definitely need help. I would like to move the shelves but Buddy the Hummer (Dennis named him that ) likes to sit on the branch in one of the vases.....need to think about this.  I have a corner unit that needs to go and chairs from the front that need to come to the back and chairs form the back that need to go to the front....I am exhausted thinking about it! For now this will do.
Also while The Brother Alan was here we changed out the Cox cable boxes....something else for me to adjust to. Really, I have talked out loud to the TV before but now it does what I ask!  The phone so far has been easier than I thought. Not having a house phone is easier than I thought. I only looked for it twice. Now I need to remember to give me new phone number to various people and change it at the medical offices. So far these past few months I have moved forward with Skyping, talking to the TV remote, now texting...what next??? I feel that I have been adjusting fairly well. I know that I still have a way to go. I am doing the best that I can and as I feel I can.
I have sent a message to Honey (AKA Keith) my computer is a bit off kilter....photos, the mouse and a few other things. He is such an angel. He is a gentle soul who always has a smile.

Project complete

The rain gutters are complete and it was interesting to see how they are formed.

Ray had a roll of the material on a machine and once inserted it comes out all formed

Ray measures out what is needed for the run, cuts and attaches brackets and then hangs it. I am very pleased with the outcome and the great service received. No more floods when the next rain comes.
I mentioned that I wanted to move a few things around in the kitchen...I said I would wait. I did.....about a few hours then I moved the curio to the tea cup spot and  the tea cups to the curio spot

I like the arrangement much better. Al the pictures are re-hung and the floor washed. I love the way my home looks and feels. I am very content with how it makes me feel. Denny and I worked to make this so and it is a comfort to me to have so much of him still here. Just as my yard is a pleasure to relax in.

Look at the new additions to the garden. They are metal bird houses which remind me of Fairy houses. They at solar and so at night they look adorable

See the tiny light that looks like a flower? This is the red one which faces the kitchen window and there is one at the pond and one which is visible from my bedroom. I love how they are scattered around and add a whimsical touch to the garden. Denny created this lovely garden and it is so nice to be outside day or night. I love how it looks and feels. It really is so complete as it is. Just as I like it.
I must share a gift  I received yesterday

My dear friend Glenda brought this to me. It is so lovely and the picture does not do it justice. The flowers are pastel and delicate. It has been added to my display. I think it may be time for a tea party!
I did get to the market yesterday for bread but forgot the milk....so I must leave now as I have not had my morning coffee yet. Thank you for visiting with me and for your kind words. Thank you most of all for your friendship.

It's all about the curio today

Last evening came the pouring rain and a bit of thunder. I do not like these storms! Today is beginning with very overcast skies and muggy. Actually there is a light drizzle falling. Now I have dirty rain water in the pond...and that means another morning (not today) cleaning it out and I better finish the cleaning this time and get regular water back in so this will not happen again. I am hoping that the waterfall connection is clear and I can figure the rock formation so that it will fall properly. For now, I may have to just put it back as a fountain. Two steps forward and one back. But, what I want to show you is my new curio

Doesn't it look lovely next to my chair? On Saturday Don took me to get it  and yesterday Glenda  (they are a team) and I arranged this and that for the shelves.

It is a perfect size; 59"x32"x13". This is the top of the curio. Both the angel and the dragonfly piece at the far right have a battery candle. So very pretty at nighttime. The stitched piece of violets  and the ornament is a piece of turquoise and copper.

 Remember to ignore reflections...mirror backing can be difficult! This is shelf one with angels, fairy and angel wings with a piece of tatting. On shelf 2, is my Cinderella...a couple of glass blown pumpkins as well as the coach and glass slipper and the Disney glass coach pin. Of course my stitched coach too.  In front of the Angels is a glass ball sitting on frogs. The front left is a Lenox dragonfly and sitting on the velvet slipper pillow is a beautiful hand painted needle box that I received as a gift from KimM.

On the third shelf is my needlework doll and the two Victorian ladies that Mr H bought for me when I first visited Arizona. They look lovely with the mirror to reflect the intricate back of their clothing. I decided to put the rose trimmed mirror here to help preserve it. In front of the ladies is a lovely dish with raised roses around the top from Italy. It was given to me 47 years ago ...a gift from Denny's cousin Tootsie that I treasure.  On the bottom of the curio are two Faeries sitting pretty and in the center is a fairy  atop a glass bubble. So pleased with this curio purchase as well as how Glenda and I filled it. Totally feels feminine with my treasures.
This weather has me feeling tired. I was ambitious yesterday morning and I made delicious Pizzelles. Today not ambitious at all. Maybe some teddy bear sewing as it all ready for the machine. Feb roo airy

Well another month has passed....they just fly by. The weather here is lovely and it means I get to spend time outside. Ran errands this morning to the market and then CVS so my day is now mine. Yesterday I checked out one of the craft clubs here in our community....Tatting. I will visit them next Tuesday afternoon. The group had been cancelled and of course not knowing I showed up. Met a lovely lady however who explained what this needlework group does. We have 7 different centers in Sun City. Each has their own programs/clubs and activities.  We can attend any of them as a member (yearly fee) and most of them have a small yearly independent fee. You can be as active as you want here. Now that I am fully retired I plan to look into a few of the clubs. Work on Alice continues and I hope to have  a picture to share tomorrow. I have had a "lesson" in computer clean-up and organization form my friends Keith....he left me with homework which I finished! Now I feel more organized and hope not to loose files and will be able to find files quickly. It is so nice to open the sliders and listen to the quiet talk of the birds. Occasionally the Raven drops by to sound off. All in all it is just lovely today.  I think you will like one of my Fairies..

This lovely friend sits on the shelf in the sewing room watching all that I do.  Along side of her is another friend you can meet at another time. Moving on

Well, things seem to be okay. I think I know where I have been and now I think I am found. Such loving thoughts from you my friends...how can I be lost if Butterfly found me! Thank you June! Then such lovely words from Carolyn (no Blog) who visits and tells me she enjoys my blog! It seems that once in awhile days are just blah. Maybe it was the weather? It has been a very on/off cloudy rainy week something we do not get much of here in The Valley of the Sun. I really think part of my woe is me is my upcoming birthday...I have never cared about the number attached to my special day but this one is my unpopular one. Just saying 71 gives me a headache. I don't know what it is suppose to feel like. I do not feel any different but somehow it is the number.....Last year if you remember, The Brother Alan came to celebrate my special day (and it was very special). I know it will pass....unfortunately there are still 13 days to it. I have stitched a bit on Alice but realized a thread that I need I do not have. How does this happen when I thought I carefully collected all of them. So....off to Jo Anns today so I can complete the motif. How about an update on mom, EvaP.  She is back home to her apartment and so far is doing okay. Now all she has to do is eat properly and drink to stay hydrated. Sounds simple enough....not! Our appointment with the spine surgeon went well. His first words to Mr H were as he pulled up the x-rays, "the piece I put in is healing just fine. Your back is a mess". Mr H is accepting this without any further surgery and also that we will be getting a handicap parking tag for the car. Hard to get older sometimes and to accept what we can not change. I have been stitching on Alice this morning while watching The Lone Ranger. Did you watch him as a child? I remember well....a good guy. Love the oldies....and in music too. I enjoy stitching with music playing. I think today might be a U2 music day. I see that my follower list is back...could be that I sent an email to blogger?
I guess I should keep you informed of the Faeries that are around me...

A bit of this and tat

What a lovely day yesterday.  Always is when you get to sit with a few friends and stitch. I have one of my KISS ( keep it simple stitching) projects that does not require too much thinking so I can chat. A short time after I arrived home, a telephone call from the restaurant that I email my concerns re: my debit card being compromised. The words I used in my email were may have been compromised but this corporate person choses to start the conversation , "I am calling in response to your email that we are corrupt!" I flew with that one. Never once asked for the staff person name on my receipt or the transaction number. I think he now knows who he was talking with and  I did set him straight. So I steamed for about an hour later then figured, it is what it is. We are still waiting for one transaction to clear. But let me tell you about the earlier part of the morning. I went to the bank to cash a check and asked Katrina if she had any new pennies. Especially since they will no longer be made as of this year. This sweet gal explained that they really do not have uncirculated coins and that the wrapped pennies are in paper but she would try to look. After opening 4 rolls we determined that there were quite a few shiny pennies for my Lucky Penny projects...

 This is the same pattern for the Sun Catcher without the final row. Once I get my ducks pennies in order I will show you what I am planning. Then I blocked the Star piece...

I did not like it before but think it is okay now. Did I mention that I enjoy tatting? Oh, I think I have. I really want to finish my Sun Catcher piece so I will plan to get to Hobby Lobby today. I also need more size 20 thread in a few colors. It is still dark outside...but all is quiet, well that is not true. The washer is doing its thing so a bit of back round noise there. I am taking a Me Day, but let's not mention this to Mr H...he will give you one of those looks...he thinks I have lots of Me Days, and I really do. I just want to stitch and tat today. Gee, that is how I feel everyday!
I have started to look for my Fairies...and found this one!

 She sits in one of my kitchen plants....wait till you see that I do have Fairies....I will introduce them to you here and there. I am sure there has to be a few in the garden....so far I only have seen lizards and hummingbirds. I think the washer has stopped so I must give it some attention. Love the mail

It seems like I never went to bed...I have been awake since 1 am or so which means I only got a few hours sleep. Not that this is very unusual, but of late I have been sleeping until at least 3 AM which is not much, but better. I just may need a nap while Mr H watches football play-offs later today. Alice kept me company for a little time but not enough to take a picture and brag. Friday the mail delivery cheered me up...

Remember the Manger Herbs and Betsy Williams? This is a book I that someone mentioned someplace in a blog or Facebook and I thought I would like to have it so on my "to get list" it went. Then you know how lists are, they are made and filed away. In my case a note on the computer desk in the box in the corner...

It is a simple repurposed container that hold notes, quotes and other pieces of paper tucked over to the side of the monitor and guarded by Mouse. Anyway, after visiting Betsy's website I realized she was the author of this book. Well I ordered it and glad I did. It is a pleasant read....

Did you know that Fairies like to make their homes under a Rosemary bush? I knew there was a reason why my Rosemary bush is large and healthy....did you know there is a recipe for Fairy Cakes? Anyway, this is now one of my "special" books ( I do have a few). Betsy, I can call her by her first name is a new friend who I am happy to know, wrote a special message for me inside

How sweet is that! Betsy Williams can be found on Facebook at Betsy Williams/The Proper Season. She is the author of several books, a lecturer and holds classes and workshops. If you have visited me here enough you know I believe in Fairies and have them hiding around me all the time. My goal in this new year is make them more comfortable in my garden and home! If you have some time, visit Betsy FB page. I should report to you that one of the fraudulent charges has been returned to me....now for the other 2 and then I will be truly happy. I appreciate the good thoughts and emails from you wishing just that.  With that, I will say how happy I am that you take time to visit and thank you for your kind words and most of all for your friendship. Computer Fairies

From one day to the next...actually from one hour to another, the computer fairies do their playing within my computer.

She and her cohorts decided to change things without even asking me first. Photos now download differently, access to documents requires a master degree and only the fairies know what else is not the same! this on top of the fact that recently blogger made changes without consulting me is just too much. I will however have my own way...okay maybe not today but I will  one of these days.  It is a crazy weather day here in Arizona. The sun made a late appearance this morning then went to the cloudy playground and now popped out and right back in again. Oh, and it is humid...rain would be nice. Mr H had an appointment with the spine surgeon. That surgery is healing well but there seem to be a few other discs that are needing attention. Problem is the surgery will not guarantee pain relief as once you touch one area anther may act up. Basically his spine is a mess waiting to happen. So, he will think about it and decide for return visit in January. It is tough getting old----er. In the meantime while shopping in the craft closet I found a bag with lovely merino wool yarn...so....of course I took it out

a scarf is started and will be a gift for someone special...shhh, can not say any more. It is a nice stitch; a variation of the brioche stitch and is soft thick and completely reversible. I made some progress on Natalia's ornament and  I put aside my southwest piece for now. I was awake at 1:30 this morning and by 2 am I was visiting with Vonna (the Twisted Stitcher) on her Flosstube videos. If you haven't stopped by to view her do yourself a favor and do so. She kept me company this morning...such a delightful lady and wonderful finisher. So needless to say I am a bit tired right now. Today is the day

That is right....today The Brother Alan arrives. I am so looking forward to his coming to stay and celebrate my upcoming (Feb 3rd) birthday with me. Don't forget to comment on the post here if you would like to be in the drawing.
My Garden Faerie is basking in the sun and the warmer weather we are starting to have.
He moves from pot to pot and I never know where he will be next! Having friends in the garden is so nice. Our flowers are starting to need some replanting...and as the days start to stay warmer Mr H will start to revitalize the winter garden to a Spring garden. We had the appointment with the surgeon who showed us the x-rays and the new body parts.... all looking good so all restrictions have been lifted. Within reason of course. I am just glad he is back to driving.  The other morning as I went out to walk, this rather large fellow was flying about and decided to sit in the tree across from me...

He is a Cooper's Hawk around 20 inches from head to stubby tail and a 24 inch wing span. They eat small birds and small mammals. I should have a few stitch pictures this week to share. Plans change quickly

A morning phone call....
He:  I'm on the way to moms, she fell
She:  No, what happened
He:  Not sure, will call you when I get there.
This was the call from my brother Alan in RI on Sunday morning. EvaP had fallen and used her I have fallen and can't get up button.   She was transported to a hospital. Alan called with updates, tests performed and blood work too and kept over night. She had not been feeling well, and we thought it was a cold or the flu. his always is a cause for concern when you are 87. As of Tuesday, she is home and feeling tired but cleared for any infection and nothing is broken. So, the plans for a quiet stitch morning went by the wayside. Sometimes it is hard to live so far away. When I spoke to her she was concerned that I sounded tired...mothers are like that.
I had a silent talk with those pesky fairies this morning. I made it clear that I had a few projects sitting idle and they had to find someone else to bother. Must be working because with needle in hand, in between the laundry, I managed to work on the Alphabet Doll a little. This is so not like me to not stitch or tat or bead for so many days. I ordered beads from Red Panda to make another Deb Roberti bracelet. I had a discount from them from my last order so of course I had to use it. I can't wait to get the package. I saved $6.21 from the 20% off coupon, and $4.71 from my Rewards...not bad. Good company to do business with. Did I mention I saw a book ....well, I put it back on the rack. Must get that bookcase today! In the meantime., I will sit and stitch and say thank you for visiting with me and for the kind words....have a great day.

A quite Sunday morning

I love the quite of my early mornings. The first cup of coffee and curling up on the daybed with an old movie and no one to interrupt. Just me....
This morning began with putting the oven on self clean, re-arranging a few containers in the craft closet to make them more accessible and now, catching up on blog visits.... and it is only 6:12 AM. The fairies have done it again.

 They have me under their spell. I have not stitched, tatted or beaded this week. I would think they have better things to do than to take my time...but I am determined to find it today. Esther has done it again...that's right, she found me a book...2 books. I must get a new bookcase and real soon.
One is on beaded bugs and the other on old fashion crocheted motifs. Why do I not have will power? I am not even that keen on crocheting! I must get that bookcase soon....
Our weather has been warm for this time of the season. We even broke a record the other day. It has been in the low 80's and wonderful to sit out on the lanai. Mr H and I had our lunch outside Wednesday. I am waiting for the sun to rise and the newspaper to arrive then I will sit out with my coffee, the second cup, and relax.
