Back to some crocheting

When I was just around 6, my Aunti Lucy taught me to crochet. From there it was to cross stitching and on to knitting then to many other crafts. I haven't crocheted in a long time. When Mr H and I were in Cave CReek recently, I visited the yarn shop and saw this and just had to make one...

It is a Bath puff.... but not for me. It will be my bath powder puff.... it is made using a German yarn, Gedifra, Fiorista Fino (cotton and polyester )...soft and lovely. Of course I love the color variation.
It only took about an hour and half to crochet. 
The pattern was free with a yarn purchase. The display puff was made from 100% cotton, but as I was not planning to use it for washing, I thought this was a better choice.

I was moving some scrap paper around the computer desk... it always has pieces of paper that I write notes on... and I found that I still have about $11.00 left on a gift certificate from Nordic Needle! Nice surprise. It is always a nice surprise to log on to my blog and find a new friend, or two who stop by...so welcome to you and my only wish is that I had an email to welcome you..... and I must say thank you for the kind thoughts for my mom and me. We are both doing well. Of course, it still remains to be seen if I survive this week without another relapse. Seems it has been every other week and back to bed for me. Optimistic I am this week! How about a Quail update? Mrs Quail now has 6 eggs in the plant.... usually she deposits up to 10. I will have to post a picture of the plant for you...but for now, how about my violet collection. All of them are in full bloom.

A new week....

Finally feeling better.... at least I am now but we shall see how I feel at the end of my work day! Mr H and I spent the afternoon walking around Cave Creek.... found a nice western antique shop, had a bit of lunch at Harold's and just enjoyed the warm 80's temp. I must admit, I was tired by evening. I must show you a RAK that arrived Saturday...

it is from Dawn. This clippers are about 30 years in my possession. Before that they were in Mr H's tool box at Health-Tex where he worked. He set up and fixed the knitting machines there until they closed business in Rhode Island. They are a bit heavy and most fobs do not seem to "fit"...but his lovely RAK arrived from Dawn. The beads are so pretty.... and look at the end... it is a thimble. Thank you for making my Saturday bright.
Remember the Ficus tree frost damage...

it looks much better since Mr H trimmed it. The tree has been here just outside our back wall for a few years now. The frost really hit it hard despite our efforts to cover it and keep it warm with 2 spot lights. Mr H plans to keep it at a manageable height for awhile in case of more frosty winter temps. While we are chatting about nature.... Mrs Gamble Quail has decided to put her nest back into the plant in the yard! No matter that Mr H heavily covered the plant with netting. She continued to find her way in and so far has left 4 eggs. So, off came the netting for now. "But next season..." is what I heard Mr H mumble. I will let you know what happens with the nest. Our experiences over the past years have varied....
Update on Mom...she is back home. At first the doctor suggested Re-Hab, but she has done well so it is with in home care for  now. Nothing broken.... but she is quite sore still. Thank you for your kind words for her and me.... thank you for spending some time chatting today.... enjoy your day.

The week that was....again....

I started the month of March with that nasty bug and here I am ending the month with a continuation of it! I have spent this past week back in bed and let me tell you, it was not because I was lazy or tired. This has hit me hard and long and I have my toes crossed that it is finally leaving me. I am being optimistic that this is going to be a good week. If my being sick... again... was not bad enough, my brother called to say mom had fallen and was in hospital for tests. She fell on Tuesday night around 11 PM and was not found until around 1 PM on Wednesday. I think I have my days right...I know the times are! There does not seem to be a broken hip but she can not remember the fall or anything about the event at all. So you ask about stitching? What is that... or right, that is when you put thread through needle into fabric. I think I remember... not much done on that front at all. I plan to remedy that today. I sat outside for a few hours yesterday and did manage a few xx's.  The bunnies were running all over the place and the birds were happily munching the feed sack. The bees were having difficulties though. A few of them kept falling into the bird bath and Mr H kept rescuing them with a stick. It was quite a sight. Our weather is absolutely beautiful right now. Mr H has put a few new plants around out the front and in the backyard. Spring is blooming. The Ficus tree is looking much better. I need to tend to the laundry and gather my stitching basket so I can  get outside. Thank you for stopping by and for the kind words and email.
