One Butterfly all a flutter

Last week a sweet older woman was buying several cuts of flannel. I asked what she was making and we then had a conversation about the baby quilts she was making. When she asked about my grandchildren, I told her about Devin arriving in November. She then told me she was going to make him a blanket. Of course I had no reason to think she would.People always say this or that......
I was at work just about one hour when I was called by the MOD that a package had been left for me by Peggy. Here it is.....

She did ask the sex...I did say a boy....but it is the thought that counts. Now I am sure that my son would not want his son to use this...so I will just keep it and remember the 80 something sweet lady who remembered.

I did get more stitched on Summer Wings ....

the colors are so pretty...in all there will be 23 DMC colors used......

this is the center one .... there will be one on each side as well as a couple of flowers and bees.

Yesterday evening brought a thunder and lightening storm then the rains and wind.....The  temp dropped from 111 to 85 in 15 minutes. But it then got a little muggy out there. There was some road flooding here in the West Valley which happens with sudden downpours and very hard packed dry land. At one point the thunder cracked just overhead and several of my neighbor's garage doors opened! Such excitement.....

I am still working on a few other stitching projects.....just have to wait....

Mr H got the test results and we made an appointment with the surgeon for the set up consult.....it is not good to have a situation, but at least it will hopefully get fixed. As with all surgeries, what is simple for one can be difficult for another. He does have some existing problems but as Peter Pan said...I will carry my pixie dust!

Hot---Humid--Hankies

Another Monsoon hot humid morning. Inside for the day for sure.

Do you call them hankies? If not, you know them as handkerchief's. When I was a small girl of 7 my Aunti Lucie taught me to crochet....then my Aunti Angie taught me to crochet around a handkerchief.....Many years later and many crochet projects, I met an elderly woman who know my love for hankies and gave me this....

It is a glass box to keep them in. Look how tattered and faded the ribbon is. All of it hand sewn on. I will guess that since I was given this around 1982 and the lady was 90 years old and told me she had it for "many many years"....it is quite old.

The ribbon is glued around the frame then the hinged part is stitched. If you look real careful into he corner you will see a hint of peach color ribbon. I have some of my hankies in here.

The lavender lace trimmed one was a gift from a friend's (Carol M) grandmother when I graduated from middle school. She crocheted the lace on then crocheted around the edge.... the blue trimmed one is one of the first that I made and the yellow is as I progressed.

Just look at how worn the ribbon is....
This one is one that was given to me by my Aunti Angie....dated around thew 1950's...it is plastic.

 

It may be plain, but it is special. As a young girl it is where I kept my hankies. Growing up in the 1050's and 60's, a youn lady never left the house without her hankie!

Okay I am back. Miss Zoe need to rush out and do her thing. I think it will be another visit to her Ophthalmologist....once again she walked straight into the wall...

Where was I....

I picked up a "composition" book yesterday to start a journal cover...but can't remember whose blog had a wonderful tutorial...Do you know??? If so, please send me the link...please. One of my goals is to start a narrative book about myself and Mr H for Grand baby Devin. For us, it is hard to imagine that by the time he is old enough to understand and know us, we could be very changed from what we are now. After all, we are 65 and both having some health issues....and the distance we live apart....well being realistic....I saw this with my grandparents and my brother. He was born on Grandma's 70th birthday and she died 10 years later and Papa the year after. So, I though I would compile some thoughts and stories and such so he might know us some day. Don't get me wrong with this....my thoughts are not sad just being real. He will have a good mom and dad. Hey who knows....I could live forever!!!!!

A special hummer....

Don't you just love lazy Sunday mornings? The house is no longer quiet...Mr H is up and watching the repeat NFL games...sometimes as if he never saw them before! And Zoe is whining...is it for food...most likely...or to go out...no, it's for food. She has been doing well since the mini stroke episode.

I have been stitching on my Designer Exchange piece and soon to be finished....you will have to wait to see it. So instead of stitching I thought I would share one of my hummingbirds. I have several around the house...in and outside....

Isn't this lovely. My son Eric and DIL Andrea sent it to me for a birthday gift a few ago. It hangs where I see it everyday....a nice reminder.

This is the left wing. What is ironic is that back in RI at our local city park, there is a gazebo much like this one that I always loved to visit.
