77 Sunset Strip

 Hello my friends... who remembers is old enough to remember  77 Sunset Strip TV series...okay, I do and I just celebrated my 77th birthday. My celebration started on the day...the 3rd with breakfast out with Dianna, lunch out with Lisa on the 4th and ended last night with dinner out with The Brother Alan and Lisa.  Guess I will stop humming the theme song now. Thank you for all the birthday wishes. Cousin Maria send a videocard of Donny Osmand signing to me! Lovely gifts received and cards..... totally feel special. 

I wanted a Fairy setting...for Christmas, The Brother Alan and Lisa gave me the house with the blue arrow and it had a couple of fairies with it,,,for my birthday they gave me the yellow arrow set up that had 14 items,,,I made the back round from collected twigs. I love it. At night it has fairy lights which looks magical.

My sis Lyn sent me this lovely scented candle with Happy Birthday charms that revolve when the candle is lit. A nice soft fragrance.

Dianna brought me these

mushrooms...One glass and the other with a tufted top.... love mushrooms. She also bought a birthday cake and a candle!

Dear Debbie and hubby sent me this beautiful anklet.  The meaning is so lovely. I have not taken it off since it arrived, I have the words posted at my sewing table so I can read them often. All in all, I had a very nice birthday...

The Tiny Dog Adoption went well. One pup is going to Germany, one to Texas, one to Wisconsin. Two are off to Rhode Island and 2 are staying here in Arizona with one going to Lynda Ruth in Canada. These are the last if anyone is interested.

We are expecting a rain storm for the next 3 or 4 days. Happily I can remain indoors and work at my sewing table. It is always nice to chat with you. Thank you for your kind words and thank you for your friendship.

No resolutions for me

 Happy New Year my friends....I know, a bit late. Do you make new year resolutions? I prefer a list of suggestions. The definition of resolution: a firm decision to do or not do something. The definition of suggestion: An idea or plan put forward for consideration.  My list is usually 10 suggestions. Are all my suggestions followed...of course not. Anyway, just my thing.

Look at this 5 inch rose! It opened on New Years day.....good omen. Still have some roses blooming but now we are starting a cold spell so maybe time for them to sleep until Spring.I must say that I had a wonderful Christmas. Relaxing and fun. Santa really read my list! An update on me. It seems that my asthma has returned. For the 18 years living here in Arizona, I lost it. Back in Rhode Island I was coping with inhaler and breathing treatments. Now I am back on an inhaler and a med to help...so far all is good. Thank you for your good wishes.

I have not worn a watch I retired....since 2015. Sis Lyn sent me this watch which works with my Samsung phone. Very like an Apple watch. Still getting used to wearing it, but I love it. I love that I can easily change the photo.

As many of you know, I have not been tatting or doing cross stitch for some time. First I needed a change and secondly, hand/finger issues get in the way. But I keep busy with hand sewing and knitting and my miniature dolls rooms. Next I am working on a Fairy village. I will be doing some Sashiko stitching also. My tree has been growing....still a work in progress. Remember my Tiny Dog from this post, well, now there are 10 Tiny Dogs

 They will be available for adoption soon! So, if interested, stay tuned for info. For now their faces are hidden!

This is Sam... a little 5 inch frog who is can sit or stand on his own. Soon he will have coveralls and maybe a sweater....I think maybe a little lady will join him. The directions were not hard to follow..there were a few lines that were not as clearly written and the video to assist the knitting, well it did not match the written directions.  I have been knitting since a young girl and also taught knitting for a local knit shop, so I am able to get through the hiccups. Random things

 Well here it is February. In just a few days I will be 75! Goodness that sounds old; then there are days I feel every bit of it. I tell myself that it is just a number. Feelings vary lately.... lazy, energetic, sad--happy and then I take a deep breath and relax. Alan is always telling me to just relax. I must say that Murphy really helps with that. He loves attention...belly rubs... love the feel of this velvet boy! I am fortunate to have a lovely large room...sleep on one side, and sew/craft on he other. Alan calls it my sanctuary. So when the mood is there...

this is the last felt ornament... taking a break from felt. She almost can be called a Kokeshi doll. They are made of wood and have no arms or legs. This is my version.

Just received this great book that I ordered from Anni Downs. This book is great...Anni's designs are great. Looking forward to making one of the patterns. First I want to make a Tiny Doll from a pattern I bought from Ann Down.

Also the cat..... She has so many nice patterns and many are free. Simple and the patterns are well drawn and directions easy to follow. I have 2 other patterns of hers at the ready. One is a dancing bunny and the other 2 sizes of a fat sheep. So many projects on my to do list. I would not want it any other way. Now I said random things...

I do not often go to Subway, but recently Lisa and I did.I usually tear the wrapper and use it to secure the bottom end of my Italian sub. For the first time I read the wrapper....do you see it? Who would eat the wrapper!? 

Murphy has been enrolled in an in home training program which will begin at the end of February. He just does not know it yet. Going to be interesting. As precious as he is, there are a few behaviors that need attention. It is a lifetime program which means after the lessons are accomplished, at any time they will return to address new issues or refine the old one. If you did not realize by now, he is a spoiled pup...and yes it is me who spoils hem. But, sis Lyn is also helping.

Murphy is crazy about boxes of any size and type but also mail. When the mail arrives he has to have a piece to "read". I usually give him all the ones that are addressed to Dennis (yes after 4 years they still arrive). Sis Lyn sent him his own mail. Fed-ex no longer rings the bell. They just leave the boxes at the front door. We love him no matter what! So, I hope you enjoyed random things today. Glad you stopped by. Lost package

 the weekend is here...again. ..this week flew by. The temps have been starting to climb. Days of 90s and even low 100s. Indoor time for me. The 9 foot umbrella in the garden is not working...the pull rope broke. the Arizona heat dries out cording really quick. Lucky to get a couple of years with umbrellas. New one coming soon. I have been living here in Arizona 17 years this summer. In all this time I have mailed many..many packages to sis Lyn back in Rhode Island. This time, last week, the package was sent and was delivered on Monday. It is very unusual that I do not get a happy call from Lyn ... she always likes what I send. Anyway, she did not get the gifts/package. Someone in her complex has it.... or it got delivered elsewhere. I am very unhappy as besides her bought birthday gift, I included a couple of homemade gifts as well as a family photo and Honey Bear! Yes there is insurance on lost packages but now I will go to the post office here on Monday and start a process to find the package. Insurance does not replace items made with care. Poor Honey Bear and Lilli  are living with someone but not Lyn!

Alan's new friend

 Another beautiful day. the sliders are open until the heat arrives later. Yesterday was the podiatrist visit. the decision at this time is to treat an Achilles tendon issue. Steroids for the week, 4% Lidocaine patch during the day and a brace to stretch the tendons at night. Not sure how I will be able to sleep with the contraption on. Also...no walking barefoot! what will I do? I need to wear backless with a bit of lift heel shoe so not to be flat to the ground. Sis Lynowl said she is going to order a bubble to put me in!!!  it will be interesting to see what Murphy will have to say about the brace.

Alan waited outside while I was in the doctor office. That is where he met this fellow. A young coyote who remained about 10 feet away while they chatted. The time of morning was 11:15...they are out at anytime at anyplace. 

Today will be a lazy day except for swishing and fluffing in the laundry area this morning. I may make a new travel pillow size pillowcase for my pillow on my rocking chair. Those pillows fit so nice for the lower back. the faeries still have not arrived to do the chores so off I must go. So nice to chat with you today. thank your for your kind words and for your friendship.

Drifting along.........

 ..... with the tumbling tumbleweeds.

Yes---- that is a tumbleweed! For years I have wanted one but when we would see them there were not exactly accessible. Denny would say "you don't need one". Of course I do not need one, but oh I wanted to have one. Then he would say there was no place in the garden for it. Well somewhere along this new journey with Alan and Lisa I must have said something. A few weeks ago (Christmas stuff and all) Alan walked in and said..."There is a tumbleweed in the garage" Wow!  The next day or two Murphy wanted to sniff and most likely eat it so I had to find a place .... here in my room up where he can not touch it but I can enjoy it everyday. And did you notice? Yes that is a picture(s) of My Denny right close by. I finally got it Denny! I love the words to the song too. If you want to hear The Sons of the Pioneers sing it click here. 

Moving on. We all have had issues with the mail during Christmas. Finally the last of my packages arrived in Canada. And My gift from sister Lynowl arrived late yesterday....

It's Mrs. Potts and Chip! I don't remember ever telling Lyn how much I loved this tea pot, but yet here it is. Of course she does know I love tea pots and has added to my collection. I am not a "big" Disney collector fan, but there are a few characters that I love: Alice, Snow White, Cinderella, just to name a few. For now they sit in my room until Christmas is put away. 

My thimble collection just grew by one. This is an antique thimble that was also in the box. Yes, I do use one as the sewing need presents itself. Many of my collection, over 100, are decorative. 

On the back side is engraved the word cherish...... and this I will.
Although I have not been cross stitching, I am sewing, machine as well as by hand. A return to my youth. Now if we could turn back our ages...... 

As an update; I had asked for special thoughts for my niece..... thank you because surgery went well and she is doing well. Still a way to go so keep her in your thoughts. We all need a little more caring for someone else in our lives.

Sewing

Finally Arizona is cooling down...no more 100s I hope.  Yesterday was a day of winds...the chimes were singing all day and Murphy was happy to chase leaves around the garden.

We have been busy, This pair of pillowcases are the latest that Lisa made. She has come a long way. Lisa completely assembled and sewed these on her own. She is still leery of cutting to measurement...I think it is the rotary cutter! but that is just fine. Alan does not want any cut fingers.

I have also been at the machine...

This is a gift that will soon be on it's way. The fabric flower is on a pin so it can be removed if washing the travel pillowcase.  I tried to make it soft in color. 

This is a special item going with the gift but I will show it after it is received. It was fun to make and embellish with each item having a purpose.

Have you seen the Dammit Dolls?????

I decided to make a few...this is the only one so far... and the poem is attached. If Dammit is not a word you use....Darn it will do! Today is make ornament day...I found one to try so this hopefully will work out. If so, you will see it soon. I guess you have noticed a creative slow down for me recently. What I can say is that I finally feel that I can get back to creating, slowly but getting there. Why you ask...who knows. Feeling down some days and preoccupied on others. 

Sis Lyn called to say the the nursing facility where mom, EvaP was for some years is holding a memorial service for her this week on the 11th for the staff and patients who knew her. Unfortunately no outsides due to Covid restrictions. She received good care there. Her name will be added to a special plaque they have for any patient who passed because of  the Coronavirus. Again Alan, Lyn Lisa and I appreciate your kind notes regarding her passing.

He got mail!

 We are still very hot...still 110+. I am looking forward to the cooler weather. Even the 90s sounds good. Yesterday I went for a haircut. I had not been since March then the virus arrived and once the salon opened again I was not ready. My hair was almost to my shoulder top! In this heat I was going crazy. The gal who did my hair is only working on Sundays due to her children being schooled at home still. A new cutter and I completely left it to her. I am so pleased with her skill. It is short again and with this heat will feel great. Of course if we are at the mall, then Lisa makes wants and I shop. We got great deals! I bought a weather proof 3/4 jacket. The tag said $99.00 and it was worth it especially when the register rang it up for $24.90! I did not know it was on sale. Most all we bought was on sale and we came home very happy.

Murphy got mail! He just loves mail and will drive us crazy until we give him junk mail or even envelopes. 

My sister just had to send him a note! She has not met Murphy yet and still she loves him. One of these days when issues are more settled she will visit. 

Two buddies having coffee outside this morning...it was a bit more comfortable sitting in the lanai. The Brother Alan has since left for work and Lisa will be going also. 

Soon there will be swishing and fluffing in the laundry area...as soon as I get a move on.

What time is it!?

 Can not believe I woke at 10am..... but Murphy and I were awake at 6am. Guess we fell back into slumber land. The temps are still rising and according to the local TV channel we are hitting record marks this year. Nice and comfy inside. Last week a package arrived from sis Lynowl

yes, the temp was 113 and I get a fluffy and soft as a bunny tail robe! Oh is feels so nice on...not exactly time for it yet! It fits perfectly.

Tomorrow our boy Murphy goes for his grooming.... sure does get scruffy fast. He was not feeling well the last few days.... bad tummy. As Alan says, if he would stop eating all the junk he finds ( plants, rocks, cardboard and paper, and socks) he would be okay. I am always on poop patrol to be sure if he ate it it comes out! 

I finally find my this years Christmas ornament.. well one of them.

Angels... remember the quote; Every time a bell rings, an Angel gets his wings..... now they will be looking to fly for Christmas. Robyn, across the courtyard friend approves. Can you believe we are already midway into August? Goodness time seems to be really on a jet.

Thinking~~~~~

Yesterday started simple enough. After chores  --- how foolish am I?--- I am still waitng for the House Faeries to arrive! Back to my story, I thought I would sit to bead the 3rd pod piece. I am finding that the highly shiny silver delicas can be difficult for me due to my vision issues. Finally I have an appointment with the specialist at the end of the month. Not easy being a new patient as you always have to wait to be seen. Anyway, the phone rang the Bother Alan ring. After our chat it was me placing a call to sis Lynowl. Now this would be a surprise as it is always that she calls me...just the way it has been. Anyway, sharing my conversation that I had with The Brother, we then discussed the issues at hand. One thing always leads to another. I am not sure how we got on the subject but I said something about all my stitched works and special items in my home. The dictionary says that thinking is … "the activity of using your mind to consider something". Well, my mind was in full mode. Many years ago a lady from one of the stitch groups that I belonged to died and her husband sold all of her works, beautiful stitched items in a garage sale! For pennies! No one in the family wanted any of it. Nothing was offered to her stitching friends. What will happen to my framed stitchery? What will happen to my tatting? The beautiful porcelain dolls. What will .... anyway, it really had my mind considering all this. Have you thought of this also? Maybe offering it to others now would be good as I would enjoy knowing that they wanted my creations. The thinking is about over and not for me to concern myself with today. Back to beading.
Tomorrow I will consider something else.... today is out with Glenda for lunch.

The week that was....

The morning is beginning a bit cool but the entire past week has been almost 20 degrees cooler than normal. Does it mean that we will really heat up soon? It won't be long and the Monsoon season will arrive and dust storms and rain will be expected and with it comes the heat.
Today is the departure day for The Brother Alan and Lisa. A lot has been accomplished and a few hiccups along the way.... nothing that adjustments can not help.

Look at my Plumeria...the "arm" has sprouted leaves! I have high hopes for this plant. I am hoping the Garden Faeries will kiss this plant for me. I had to move it with all the changes for the Pond Garden... and it seems to be liking this spot and having the irrigation added.

The Pond garden is still a work in progress..... Yesterday Alan painted the wrought iron planter a turquoise color that Lisa wanted. I had Alan put the ladder back there and then I mention earlier to Lisa about moving the sun to the area and Alan did. I need to work on the planting...needs something more and I will work on it before the heat of the summer does arrive. This morning I watched as a hummingbird took a shower then a bath in the fountain! Not wanting to startle him, I did not rush to get the camera. That makes it all worth the work.
Yesterday Dianna and Bobby finally got to meet Alan and Lisa! Every time Alan is here, they are away. We had a nice lunch sitting out in the lanai. It was simple; Italian antipasto, tossed salad, various add-ins, fresh bread for sandwiches (store bought) and cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto as well as plain and strawberries followed by custard pie.
Today is sis Lynowl's birthday. Of course with all goings on this week, the package is still sitting on the sidebar in the kitchen! I will make it to the post office today for sure. I did not want to mail it too early because she would have opened it before today and now it will be late.

Where is Spring?

It was cold last night...and this morning... where is Spring? We had some lovely 70s temps and now this; temps in the 30s overnight and only 50s during the day! I know compared to other places I am lucky to have such nice weather ad I do feel lucky.

This bright yellow daisy greets me this day...full bloom with more buds yet to open. As I stood there taking this picture, along came...

A small butterfly! So you see him? I almost missed it as it blended right in. the birds are chatting and this House Finch stopped by

They just love  the Hummingbird nectar. The Woodpecker stops by almost everyday too as well as a few other birds.
Speaking of "Spring.....Spring training starts here in Arizona in 2 weeks.... the traffic will be crazy and the restaurant full. Since I will not be driving for a couple of weeks that is okay. About that.....
I had a phone call form the surgical center. "Mrs. Horton, may I call you Grace?" Yes I replied. " I am the nurse here at the surgical center and was just reviewing your paperwork" (All which was filled out on-line and submitted.) I hear a giggle. I asked if I did it incorrectly. "Yes, but, no ….(there was a hesitation) you did fill out that you are pregnant!" What? Where was my mind during that part of the forms? We got it all straighten out and I am no longer pregnant. Sis Lynowl said she would nix the baby shower!
Tomorrow will be going to market for last minute food stuff and then I will prepare some things over the weekend. The nurse reminded me that I would not be using my right hand for a week or so and I should make things easy. Dear Debbie has made great suggestions for me.

26,297 days ago....

It was a Monday...the temperature was 10 degrees and it was 26,297 days ago that me myself and I entered the world. First born to Eva and Giuseppe (Joe); I am named after my maternal grandma Grazia (Grace). I was not expected until February 14th.... but I was in a hurry to be me! Actually my mom Eva P was very sick with a terrible cold which resulted in my early arrival. So instead of being Fridays child is loving and giving...I am Mondays child is fair of face.
So many things/events have happened in these years.... I have been very lucky, and now here I am 72 years later.
Saturday I celebrated with friends...

 We started with a glass of my favorite wine and chatted before settling down to cake and coffee. It was a wonderful couple of hours with friends!

My morning did not start out so pleasant. After making a blog post, I looked out to the lanai....

No, that is not a shiny waxed floor...it is a flood! Remember the irrigation line that was chewed? Well, I should made sure it was aimed in the  opposite direction.... when the system turned on this morning it shot out directly into the lanai! A mess for sure. Guess I will be trying to fix this like no

Lovely cards are displayed on my mantle. I feel happy.... thank you to Robyn, Rachel, Sue, and Glenda for the cards and of course to sis for the flowers.....

Today will be a quiet day. I will most likely be yelling at the TV during the Super Bowl...Go Patriots! I  have a week to accomplish a few things and that is the plan for now.

Hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas Day festivities. I am thankful to dear friends Dianna and Bobby for including me with their family for the day. They made my difficult day easier.

It is nice when people know what you like when they get you a gift....

This was from Glenda.... I am sure you notice the turquoise hanger...it is from one of my favorite artists. And a lovely plaque that is already on the fridge for me to see and read each day.

Sis Lynowl was paying attention many months ago... while during one of our phone conversations I mentioned that I would like to get a Quesadilla maker. It was delivered in that beautiful green sheer bag! Can not wait to get the supplies to make lunch! I once worked with someone who used to make us lunch  with the same one and the possibilities are endless.
It was a very nice Christmas under my tree...🎅
I was treated to a four bloom for Christmas...

Yes indeed...4..... f o u r   blooms bringing the total to 7 flowers on this amazing plant. There is another lower shoot but I do not think it will amount to much but who knows.
We are on the count down to the end of another year and one more day to note, New Years Day. This means almost time for me to get ready to pack up all the decorations and store them away. Do you make New Year resolutions? I never make resolutions. This year I plan to make a list.... a list of what I hope to do during the coming year. I will have a craft box with patterns and some supplies so that I can just open it and choose a project. The Brother Alan gets a To Do List each time he comes out but this is not for him...he will be happy to know. His fun stuff is the garden, the house and other things. Time to get a move on around here. Coffee is almost finished and the Housework Fairies have not arrived. They seem to be on an extended vacation. Busy days.....

Oh I am chilly! It is around 49 out  with expectations of the temp rising to 75 today. Waiting for my coffee to brew and think Eggos will be on my plate soon. I generally have quiet slow days but recently I have been busy. On Friday an Saturday I was with Glenda helping to set up a dinner and then helping with the clean-up...she worked me to the bone ( I told Glenda I was going to tell everyone!!!) Totally enjoyed the time spent.
Then Sunday was my quiet day..... On Monday a call from Dianna set me in motion. Bobby's cat Moochie was sick and he was at work and Dianna needed help getting Moochie to the vet.

The poor kitty was definitely ill, she was a perfect patient never giving the doc any trouble. She has beautiful markings. I will be checking to see how Mooch is doing today...and Bobby. Yesterday was a planned outing with Glenda. We had a nice time galivanting and lunch too. Then a phone call from sis Lynowl to tell me she received a package...of course since I tracked it I already knew. The surprise was that she was trying not to open it! That did not last long and she opened it while we chatted on the phone.  I never sat at the computer at all yesterday and did not answer my emails until last evening. Debbie was worried and she sent out "Car 54 where are you" email.... we are in touch every day. Sorry to worry her but I finally responded so we are back on track today. Definitely no plans for today...I did say that for Monday didn't I? I hope to make a beaded snow globe ornament that was featured in one of the Facebook groups. I will plan my baking for the weekend... not a fan of baking too far ahead. Christmas dinner will be a simple one. 
The fourth flower on the Amaryllis is getting ready to bloom...any day now.

Look at the color of them! Actually looks like popcorn shooting out of the center! Really pleased with this plant and hope they will be available next year again. I have a new lavender plant but have not put it in the ground yet. Yes, here in Arizona winter is still planting and blooming time. Well I can smell the wonderful fresh brewed scent of coffee and I am a bit hungry so off I go. Glad you visited today. Thank you for your kind words and thank you for your friendship.

Santa's back...found

Well I am certainly getting a late start to my day. I guess I was tired when I woke at 4am and fell back to sleep…. awake and first cup of coffee down. I do have a few errands to take care of then it is off to Glenda's this afternoon. Although it is very cloudy they say no rain...we shall see.
On Tuesday when Dianna and Bobby were I noticed that one of the Santa earrings was missing. Disappeared…. vanished under the tree.

I had the card with them on one of the branches and now there was only one. We looked and moved packages not once but a few times. This morning I glanced down and there it was...dangling from a lower branch. Amazing how three of us could miss it.

All is ready now, he can deliver his packages in just 11 days...oh my! 11 days.... glad I am finally ready. Actually I will be when I go to mail the last 2 boxes.
I made a lovely...well I can not say yet because it has not yet been received but I really like it and can't wait to show you. Tomorrow a few people should receive their packages and sis if you are reading this you are not getting it yet!

Christmas decorating and a gift arrived

Sometimes I sit and think and sometimes I wish I had just moseyed along. I miss having my Denny around and try to remember his words to me...… anyway, the phone rang the other evening and it was sis Lynowl worried about a package that was suppose to arrive for me around the 13th but now it was coming early!...it was arriving Tuesday by 9PM.  You see, sis can not have a package around and not open it immediately. I on the other hand can wait until the "time" …

Yesterday morning a phone call from Across the Courtyard from Robyn to tell me she could see a package left at the front door. There was no ringing of the door bell and this was early. I brought it in and texted sis to let her know it arrived. I opened the big box and this beautiful green silky bag appeared. No, I have not opened or peeked inside. Curious, yes, but I am patient.it sits prettily by the tree.
 I got to decorate again for someone else yesterday afternoon...Glenda. She asked me to add the ribbon (like my tree) to her tree. I was delighted. It was the first time since moving out here that I got to do this. I think I mentioned that I used to help decorate several homes each Christmas back in RI.

Wearing my Beaded Santa earrings, and juggling wire  was telling her that and  in RI I had a nice cobbler style apron to hold all my tools and before I knew it she appeared with this pretty apron...the very style I used to have and gave it to me. Not the I am doing more home decorating, but I will enjoy having it the next time I am juggling this and that while decorating. Her tree is pretty (already was) and some lights put around the other décor. It felt so nice to spread my decorating cheer once again. Today will be a quiet day. I have gathered all the ingredients to make Banana Nut bread and my crochet project will be finished.
